WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team downed the FDU Knights 12-9 on Friday afternoon. With the win the Hoyas improve to 4-5 on the season while the Knights fall to 1-7 with the loss.
Jake Hyde broke the program record in home runs after recording his 40th career blast in the sixth inning.
ON THE RECORD
"There is only one home opener of the year and to open Capital One Park the way we did wasn't the prettiest, but we did what it took to get the win. Give credit to FDU, their guy on the mound was tough and they competed really hard and there was no quit in them and I wouldn't expect anything else from them. I am really proud of our guys; I thought
Cody Jensen gave us the life we needed going 3.2 with no hits and no runs and
Nick Davis getting his third save really was just what the doctor ordered late in the game. We were able to win the middle part of the game and the back half after being down early so credit to our guys for getting the job done today. Congratulations to
Jake Hyde, it has been an honor to coach him and breaking the all-time home run record is a special thing to do in a win.
Christian Ficca keeps swinging the bat really well as he had five RBIs tonight and I am proud of Travis Illitch coming off the bench the way he did and getting a big RBI double for us. I am really proud of our team's effort and the way we competed, and we are looking forward to getting back out here for game two tomorrow."– Head Coach
