Georgetown Hosts Xavier in BIG EAST Matchup

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's men's basketball team returns home to Washington, D.C. for a BIG EAST game against Xavier on Saturday. Tipoff at Capital One Arena is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET and the game will be broadcast on FS1. The Hoyas enter Saturday's contest with a 9-19 overall record and a 2-15 mark in BIG EAST play after falling to Villanova 75-47 at the Finneran Pavilion on Tuesday night. Xavier sits at 14-14 on the season and 8-9 in league play following a 91-58 win over DePaul on Wednesday. The Blue & Gray will celebrate Senior Day in a pregame ceremony on the court.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • Georgetown fell to the Villanova Wildcats on Tuesday evening 75-47 at Finneran Pavilion. Dontrez Styles led the Blue & Gray and was the lone Hoya in double figures with 16 points on six made field goals, including a trio of 3-pointers, to go along with a squad-best seven rebounds. Rowan Brumbaugh and Jayden Epps each tallied three assists in the contest.
  • Epps is currently fourth in the conference in scoring, averaging 17.9 ppg in 25 outings. He leads a trio of Hoyas in double-figure scoring as Styles contributes 13.1 ppg while Cook adds 10.9 ppg.
  • Cook's 8.1 rpg ranks fourth in the BIG EAST and is fueled by his league-leading 4.0 offensive boards per game, which ranks fourth nationally. Additionally, the East Orange native leads the squad in efficiency, shooting 59.3% (115-194) from the floor. Cook has tallied seven double-doubles on the season, with the most recent coming at Creighton (19P/11R) on Feb. 13.
  • Epps dishes out 4.3 apg, holding on to eighth in the conference, while his 2.2 3-pointers made per game ranks ninth in the league.
  • The Hoyas are led by Ed Cooley who is in his 18th season as a collegiate head coach and his first season with Georgetown. In 2022, Cooley was the recipient of the Naismith Coach of the Year Award, named the Sporting News Coach of the Year, the BIG EAST Coach of the Year, the NABC District 5 Coach of the Year and the USBWA District 1 Coach of the Year.
 
ABOUT THE MUSKETEERS
  • Xavier is coming off a 91-58 win over DePaul at home on Wednesday night. Quincy Olivari led all scorers with 32 points in the contest, also pulling down five boards and tallying four assists. Olivari led a quartet of Musketeers in double figures, with Trey Green and Dayvion McKnight each adding 13 and Desmond Claude adding 11. Daylin Swain came off the bench to grab a team-best six rebounds while McKnight also dished out a squad-best eight assists.
  • Olivari is the BIG EAST Conference and Xavier's leading scorer (19.4), followed by Claude (15.3) and McKnight (12.1) in double figures.
  • Abou Ousmane leads the team on the boards, averaging 6.5 rpg, while McKnight's 5.1 apg paces the offense, good enough for fourth in the league.
  • Xavier is led by Sean Miller in his second season back with the Musketeers after 12 seasons as the head coach at Arizona. Miller was the Xavier head coach previously for five seasons from 2004-09.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES WITH XAVIER
  • Saturday's game will be the 27th meeting between the two programs, dating back to the 1953-1954 season. Xavier holds the 20-6 advantage over Georgetown in the series. At home, the Hoyas are 4-7 against the Musketeers.
  • The last meeting between the two programs was on January 19, with Xavier edging out the Hoyas to take the 92-91 victory in Cincinnati. Epps led all scorers in the contest with 32 points to go along with a career-best matching 11 assists for the first double-double of his career.
