Men's Lacrosse Stifles Brown 11-5

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's men's lacrosse team put together a defensive showcase and an all-around offensive effort in an 11-5 victory over visiting Brown on Saturday afternoon. The No. 13/11 Hoyas improve to 3-2 on the year while the Bears fall to 0-4.
 
Hoya Highlights
  • Eight different Hoyas scored goals in the game, including six different players on each of the first six goals of the game.
  • Alexander Vardaro led the Hoyas with two goals and two assists while TJ Haley added a goal with three assists.
  • Joe Cesare scored twice and added a goal while Chase Llewellyn found the back of the cage twice as well.
  • Aidan Carroll and Kade Goldberg both scored a goal to go along with an assist.
  • Graham Bundy Jr. and Jordan Wray both scored as well while Patrick Crogan was credited with an assist.
  • James Ball won 10-of-17 (.588) faceoffs and collected seven ground balls.
  • Defensively, the Hoyas held Brown scoreless for spans of 20:48 and 20:29 in the game and only allowed four goals against GU's starters.
  • Wallace Halpert was credited with four caused turnovers and matched Ball's seven ground balls.
  • In goal, Anderson Moore (3-2) had 11 saves in cage for the win, including several doorstep stops at point blank range.
How It Happened
  • Brown jumped on the board first, winning the opening faceoffs and scoring just five seconds into the game. The Hoyas responded with three goals from three different goal scorers before the Bears added another goal with 1:59 remaining to make it 3-2 after the first.
  • Georgetown locked down its guests in the second quarter, blanking Brown in the frame while adding another three goals to the scoreboard. All three of GU's goals in the frame were from different Hoyas, marking six goals from six different players.
  • Coming out of the break, both squads traded goals in the frame to make it 8-4 going into the final 15 minutes of action.
  • In the fourth, Georgetown scored three unanswered goals and held Brown scoreless until the final 2:12 of the frame against the Blue & Gray's reserves.
Brown Notes
  • Ben Locke led the Bears with two goals and an assist.
  • Dash Sachs won 10 of 18 (.555) faceoffs on the day and collected five ground balls.
  • Connor Theriault (0-4) collected nine saves between the pipes in the loss.
Hoya Notes
  • Bundy moved into sole possession of fifth place all-time in career goals at Georgetown with 131 and tied for fifth in career scoring with 188, matching Paul Murphy ('85).
  • Haley passed Michael Mauboussin ('86) Dylan Watson ('22) and Craig Dowd ('10) for 12th place in career scoring on the Hilltop with 141 points.
  • Wallace Halpert's caused turnover gives him 56 for his career, passing Alex Mazzone ('22) for fourth place all-time at Georgetown.
