Late Surge Lifts Hoyas in 14-8 Road Win at High Point

WASHINGTON – Tied 8-8 going into the fourth quarter, Georgetown University's men's lacrosse team outscored High Point 6-0 in the final frame to seal a 14-8 midweek victory at Vert Stadium in High Point, North Carolina on Tuesday evening. With the win, the No. 11/10 Hoyas improve to 4-2 on the season while the Panthers fall to 4-3 overall.
 
Hoya Highlights
  • Aidan Carroll led the Hoyas with four goals while Graham Bundy Jr. added two goals and two assists.
  • Alexander Vardaro posted a hat trick, Jordan Wray had two goals with an assist and Chase Llewellyn found the back of the cage twice as well.
  • Joe Cesare tallied a lone goal for the Blue & Gray while TJ Haley notched three assists and Kade Goldberg had a pair.
  • James Ball won 17-of-23 (.739) faceoffs and collected nine ground balls.
  • Defensively, Georgetown's defense blanked High Point for the final 25:57 of the game.
  • Dylan Hess was credited with a pair of caused turnovers and hauled in three ground balls.
  • Wallace Halpert was credited with a caused turnover and pulled in four ground balls while Carroll added four as well.
  • Seamus Foley also had a caused turnover with three ground balls.
  • In goal, Anderson Moore (4-2) had nine saves in cage for the win.
How It Happened
  • The Hoyas opened the game with back-to-back goals, scoring at the 13:01 and 11:42 marks in the opening frame. High Point would respond with three-straight goals to take a 3-2 advantage, starting a back-and-forth trend that would last the first three quarters of the game. Carroll would net his second goal of the game to knot things up at 3-3 but the Panthers responded with a goal with 31 seconds left in the stanza to lead 4-3 after the first.
  • In the second, two goals from the Hoyas regained the lead for the Blue & Gray but the host Panthers responded in full with a pair to lead 6-5 going into halftime.
  • Coming out of the break, Bundy's first goal of the game tied things up at 6-6 but HPU scored the next two to take their largest lead of the game at 8-6. Georgetown kept pace, however, and closed out the frame with two goals to even the score at 8-8 with 15 minutes to play.
  • The Hoyas blew the game open in the fourth quarter, holding High Point scoreless the entire frame while putting six unanswered goals on the scoreboard. Vardaro scored all three of his goals in the frame
High Point Notes
  • Brayden Mayea led the Panthers with two goals and two assists while Nick Rizzo had two goals and an assist.
  • John Adams had two caused turnovers and two ground balls.
  • Zack Overend collected 12 saves between the pipes in the loss.
Hoya Notes
  • Bundy moved into fourth place all-time in career scoring at Georgetown with 192 points, passing Paul Murphy ('85) and Chris Remington ('95) on the day.
