WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's women's lacrosse team fell 13-11 to visiting Delaware on Saturday afternoon at Cooper Field. With the loss, the Hoyas fall to 2-4 overall and the Blue Hens improve to 5-1.
Hoya Highlights
- Emma Gebhardt and Gracie Driggs posted hat tricks to lead the Hoyas. Gebhardt's second goal of the game gave her 100 career points.
- Tessa Brooks added two goals, Tatum Geist had a goal with two assists and both Maley Starr and Kylie Hazen found the back of the cage as well.
- Mikaila Kitchen and Annie McGovern were both credited with assists as well.
- Defensively, Starr and Geist both notched a pair of caused turnovers on the day while Starr led all Hoyas with three ground balls.
- Driggs collected seven draw controls to lead all players.
- In goal, Leah Warehime collected five saves in the loss.
How It Happened
- Georgetown got on the board first with the first of Gebhardt's goals before the Blue Hens responded with three-straight goals. Both teams would trade scores in the final minutes, including a Delaware goal in the final seconds to make it 4-2 for UD.
- A back-and-forth affair in the second stanza saw another round of call-and-response scores. Gebhardt's milestone goal with 2:57 remaining in the half kept the Delaware advantage to just a pair, heading into halftime with the Hoyas down 7-5.
- Coming out of the break, the Blue & Gray notched back-to-back goals to knot things up at 7-7 at the 9:53 mark, but Delaware responded immediately with a goal 37 seconds later to spark a 3-0 run to close out the frame and lead 10-7 going into the fourth.
- With 15 minutes to play, a late run from the Hoyas wasn't enough as the Blue Hens held on to their two-goal lead down the stretch to seal the 13-11 victory.
Delaware Notes
- Jaclyn Marszal led the Blue Hens with three goals and two assists while Delaney McDaniel added two goals and three assists.
- Defensively, Madison Hranicka had three caused turnovers and five ground balls.
- Steph Marszal collected 11 saves between the pipes for the win.
