Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Hoyas Fall 17-5 to Loyola

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown women's lacrosse team (2-5) fell 17-5 to No. 7 Loyola (5-0) on Wednesday evening on Cooper Field. 

ON THE RECORD 
"Loyola showed up from the beginning of the game and outperformed us in all facets of the game starting at the draw." - said Head Coach Ricky Fried on the game. 

How It Happened
  • After a scoreless opening six minutes of the first quarter, Loyola scored four consecutive goals including two from Sydni Black. Kylie Hazen beat the Greyhound defense to put the Hoyas on the board at the 4:59 mark. Loyola closed out the final 1:29 of the first with three goals to put the Greyhounds up 7-1.
  • In the second quarter, the Greyhounds extended their scoring streak to eight led by Black with two. At halftime Loyola led 12-1.
  • With two goals Georgia Latch led the Greyhounds offense in the third quarter as Loyola extended its scoring streak to 12. The Hoyas ended the Greyhounds' run with a free-position goal from Leanna Tsahalis at the 2:31 mark. At the end of the third, Loyola led 16-2.
  • GU kept the scoring momentum in the beginning of the fourth with two consecutive goals from Gracie Driggs. At the 6:12 mark, Black notched her seventh goal of the contest. Hazen capped off the scoring with 52 second remaining in the game to give the Hoyas five goals. Loyola remains undefeated with a 17-5 victory on the Hilltop.  
Of Note
  • Driggs and Hazen each recorded two goals while Tsahalis added one.
  • Lily Athanas and Maggie O'Brien each tallied a team leading three draw controls.
  • In net, Leah Warehime made seven saves on the evening. 
Up Next 
  • The Hoyas will travel north to Sparks, Maryland to host a game against Penn at USA Lacrosse Headquarters on Tuesday March 12. The opening draw is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Tierney Field.
