Hoyas Drop Midweek Contest to Maryland

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team fell to the University of Maryland in a midweek contest 11-4 on Tuesday afternoon. With the setback, the Hoyas slide to 16-8 on the year while Maryland improves to 19-6 on the season.

ON THE RECORD
"Great job by Maryland tonight and they took advantage of some free bases, and they are one of the top teams in the country for a reason. It was great to see Owen Carapellotti have a solid day at the plate. We were just unable to string together some hits and get the offense going. We missed some opportunities early but credit to them executing pitches when they needed to. We will have a short memory and will get back to work tomorrow before our conference home opener of the season against Villanova on Thursday." – Head Coach Edwin Thompson

  • The leadoff batter for UMD in the second hit a solo home run to left field extending the Terps' lead to three. In the bottom of the second, Gilio smashed his first collegiate home run to right center cutting the Terp lead to two.
  • In the third frame, UMD plated a run on a bases loaded walk. In the ensuing at bat, UMD hit a grand slam to left center giving the Terps an 8-1 lead.
