WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team defeated the Villanova Wildcats 8-4 on Thursday afternoon. With the win, the Hoyas improve to 17-8 while Villanova slides to 7-16 on the season.
ON THE RECORD
"It's great to start BIG EAST play with a win. Villanova's pitcher was tough, but we found a way to punch back after they scored two in the top of the first with
Kavi Caster's grand slam. We once again found a way to punch back after they scored in the fifth and then we scored those two runs late to give us a little bit of insurance. I thought today was all about
Cody Jensen and
Andrew Citron on the mound, they gave us five innings of really good baseball.
Christian Ficca and
Marco Castillo were great at the plate for us and were able to help us get going with some big hits and a few RBIs today. It was good to start conference play the way we did but we need to play better defense as a team. We will be ready to go for game two tomorrow." – Head Coach
Edwin Thompson
