PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Georgetown University's men's lacrosse team opened BIG EAST play with a 15-10 road victory at Providence on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Hoyas improve to 7-2 on the season and 1-0 in league play while the Friars fall to 4-6 overall and 0-1 in conference action.
Hoya Highlights
- Alexander Vardaro led Georgetown with four goals and two assists. Graham Bundy Jr. added a hat trick with an assist.
- Bundy's four points give him 203 for his career, making him just the fourth Hoya in program history to reach 200 career points.
- Aidan Carroll had two goals and an assist, Patrick Crogan scored twice and TJ Haley scored a goal to go with a team-high three assists.
- Wallace Halpert and Jack Leary both notched a goal and an assist in transition from the rope unit, including a man down goal from Leary.
- Chase Llewellyn added a goal while Ty Banks, Joe Cesare and Kade Goldberg all chipped in assists.
- James Ball won 16-of-26 (.615) faceoffs and collected 11 ground balls.
- Defensively, Georgetown's defense held its seventh-straight opponent to 10 goals or fewer.
- Seamus Foley was credited with three caused turnovers and hauled in a pair of ground balls while Banks and Dylan Hess both notched two caused turnovers as well.
- In goal, Anderson Moore (7-2) had five saves, all in the third quarter.
How It Happened
- A back-and-forth opening frame saw the two squads trade goals before Providence broke open a 2-2 tie with consecutive goals 15 seconds apart at the 3:35 mark to lead 4-2 after the first.
- The Friars scored on the opening possession in the second to lead 5-2, but Georgetown responded by closing out the half with nine unanswered goals to lead 11-5 going into halftime.
- Coming out of the locker room, both sides kept pace with each other, scoring two goals apiece en route to 13-7 GU lead with 15 minutes to play.
- In the final frame, an early Georgetown goal made it 14-7 before the Friars began to chip away at the lead with three-straight goals to make it 14-10 with 4:31 to play. Down the stretch, Bundy put the game away for good with his third goal at the 2:15 mark courtesy of a Vardaro assist.
Providence Notes
- Michael Chabra and Richie Joseph both had four goals for the Friars.
- Gregg Dennison had two caused turnovers and three ground balls.
- James Corasaniti collected 12 saves between the pipes in the loss.
