WASHINGTON – The Georgetown women's lacrosse team clinched a spot in the BIG EAST conference tournament after downing Marquette 18-11 on the road on Saturday afternoon. The Hoyas are now 6-9 on the season and advance to 4-1 in BIG EAST action while Butler falls to 5-10 overall and 1-3 in conference play.

How It Happened
- Marquette got on the board early but Kylie Hazen found the back of the net at the 12:16 mark to tie the game 1-1. Emma Gebhardt landed two consecutive goals to put GU up 3-2. The Golden Eagles responded with a player-up free-position goal from Tess Osburn to come within one of the Hoyas at the end of the first quarter.
- The Hoyas and Golden Eagles exchanged two pairs of goals to open the second quarter. The Blue & Gray jumped out to a four-goal lead (8-4) after GU scored three consecutive goals. At the 5:33 mark, Marquette found the back of the net but Tatum Geist responded with a goal of her own to keep the Hoyas in the lead 9-5. Leigh Steiner earned a free-position goal for MU with 58 seconds left in the quarter to end the half trailing GU by three.
- Marquette scored two goals early in the third quarter but the Hoyas would add five goals to jump out to a 14-9 lead at the end of the quarter. GU earned two goals off of free-position shots and capitalized off of player-up opportunities for two more.
- Both teams were held scoreless in the opening five minutes of the fourth quarter. Rileigh Meyer and Driggs both scored within a minute to break the scoreless streak. Hannah Greving responded for MU at the 8:22 mark but the Hoyas would respond with two more goals to claim a 18-11 victory.
Of Note
- The Blue & Gray's 18 goal victory tied its season high of goals in a game for the third time this season.
- Eight Hoyas scored in the win led by Gebhardt with four. Driggs and Meyer each scored three, Maley Starr, Tessa Brooks and Geist added two a piece while Molly Bryne and Hazen each scored one.
- Byrne was a key offensive contributor with a team-best three assists.
- Lily Athanas and Maggie O'Brien led the Hoyas at the circle with four draw controls each.
- Margaret Loneran paced the Blue & Gray with three caused turnovers.
- The Hoyas out shot the Golden Eagles 39-34.

The Hoyas will finish up their road stretch on Saturday, April 20 when they face Monmouth in West Long Branch, New Jersey. The opening draw is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Kessler Stadium.
