Women’s Lacrosse Earns Fourth Straight Victory Over Monmouth

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown women's lacrosse team advanced its win streak to four with a commanding 18-7 victory over Monmouth on Saturday afternoon. The Hoyas are now 7-9 on the season and remain 4-1 in BIG EAST action while Monmouth falls to 5-9 overall. 

How It Happened
  • The Hoyas got to work quickly with two goals in the opening two minutes of the game. The Hawks responded with two of their own to tie the contest 2-2 at the 11:01 mark. GU went on a three-goal scoring run to gain the 5-2 lead at the end of the first including a buzzer-beater goal from Emma Gebhardt
  • The Hoyas continued their scoring run in the second quarter with back-to-back goals in 10 seconds. Ella Spears ended the Hoyas' run with a goal at the 11:53 mark. Four minutes later, Gracie Driggs capitalized on a player-up opportunity to extend the Hoyas lead 8-3. The Hawks managed another goal in the closing minutes of the quarter, but Maggie O'Brien would score with 30 seconds remaining to sustain GU's five-goal lead 9-4.
  • Georgetown continued to widen its lead in the third quarter with Tatum Giest scoring her third goal of the afternoon and Kylie Hazen scoring two to earn a hat trick. At the end of the quarter, the Hoyas led 12-5. 
  • The Hoyas commanded the fourth quarter with six unanswered goals and allowed just two goals from Monmouth to capture an 18-7 victory on the road. 
Of Note
  • Georgetown earned its third straight victory with 18 goals led by 13 different Hoyas scoring at least one goal. 
  • Hazen led GU's offensive production with six points (3G, 3A), while Geist (3G) and Starr (2G,1 A) each added three. 
  • Defenders Melissa Massimino and O'Brien netted their first career goals. 
  • O'Brien and Lily Athanas commanded the circle with eight draw controls each. The Hoyas owned the circle going 20-7 at the draw. 
  • Margaret Lonergan paced GU with two caused turnovers while eight Hoyas recorded at least one. 
  • The Blue & Gray outshot the Hawks 52-15 and held them to three shots in both the second and third quarters. 
  • In net, Leah Warehime made four saves while Olivia Shinsato recorded one. 

Up Next 
The Hoyas will return to the Hilltop to close out the 2024 season with a conference contest against UConn on Saturday, April 27. The Blue & Gray will honor their 13 seniors in a ceremony prior to the game. The opening draw is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Cooper Field.
