Three Among the Top Four as Hoyas Close the Gap to Two Strokes at BIG EAST Championship

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown women's golf team closed the gap to just two strokes following the second round of play at the 2024 BIG EAST Championship Presented by JEEP on Sunday in Okatie, South Carolina. A trio of Hoyas are among the top four following 18 holes on the par-72, 6,237-yard course at Callawassie Island Golf Club. As a team, the Hoyas are 6-under 582 (297-285). The 3-under 285 as a squad matches the program record for a team performance over 18 holes.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Megan Gormley is in second place at 4-under 140 (70-70) after going 2-under 70 once again on the second day. The senior captain tallied a pair of back-to-back birdies, totaling four on the day with birdies on 8 and 9 as well as 14 and 15. She added 12 pars
  • Georgia Ruffolo shot up six spots and is tied for third place at 1-under 143 (74-69) after tallying a 3-under 69 in the second round. Ruffolo tallied 10 birdies, with three on the front nine and a pair on the back nine. She also managed 12 pars on the day.
  • Morgan Smith moved up four spots and is tied for third place at 1-under 143 (73-70) following a 2-under 70 in the second round. Smith finished the front nine at 2-over but made up for it on the back nine with a birdie and a pair of eagles. The freshman also managed 12 pars on the day.
  • Juliette Riot moved up three spots and is tied for 19th at 12-over 156 (80-76). Her 4-over 76 was fueled by a trio of birdies to go along with eight pars.
  • Claire Chen is tied for 24th at 16-over 160 (82-78) following two rounds of action. She managed a birdie to go along with 11 pars.
 
OF NOTE
  • The 3-under 285 matches the program record for a team performance over 18 holes. It matches the 3-under 285 earlier this fall at the UNCG Collegiate in the third round as well as the third round of the 2016 Ron Moore Intercollegiate.
  • The 3-under 285 also marks the best team round at the BIG EAST Championship for a Hoya team.
  • Ruffolo's 3-under 69 also matches the program record for an individual round at the BIG EAST Championship, set by Gormley at the 2022 BIG EAST Championship in the second round.
  • The Hoyas lead the field with birdies (28) and eagles (3). Ruffolo (10) and Gormley (9) are the top two in the birdies category while Smith leads the field with a pair of eagles and Ruffolo has one.
