Three Hoyas Among the Top Four as Hoyas are Runners Up at BIG EAST Championships

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's golf comeback bid fell just short on Monday as the Hoyas took second place at the BIG EAST Championship Presented by JEEP held in Okatie, South Carolina. A trio of Hoyas finished among the top four as the squad carded a 13-over 301 on the par-72, 6,169-yard course at the Callawassie Island Golf Course. Georgetown took runner-up honors with a three-round score of 19-over 883 (297-285-301) over 54 holes.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Morgan Smith carded an even 72 on the day to finish the tournament at 1-under 215 (73-70-72). The freshman nabbed a quartet or birdies to go along with 10 pars on the day.
  • Georgia Ruffolo tied for third at even 216 (74-69-73). Her 1-over 73 on the course was fueled by four birdies and 10 pars.
  • Megan Gormley also tied for third at even 216 (70-70-76). Her 4-over 76 featured four birdies and seven pars.
  • Juliette Riot was the fourth Hoya in the final standings at 20-over 236 (80-76-80) to tie for 19th place. She managed 11 pars on the day.
  • Claire Chen finished 24th at 25-over 241 (82-78-81). She managed a birdie to go along with 10 pars in the third round.
 
OF NOTE
  • Georgetown led the field with 41 birdies over the three-round tournament followed by Xavier (26) and St. John's and Creighton, both with 25.
  • The Hoyas also led the field with three eagles, two coming from Smith's second round.
  • Ruffolo led the field with 14 birdies over three days while Gormley followed closely behind with 13.
  • Smith was the top Hoya in the pars category with 37.
