Georgetown Falls to Seton Hall

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team fell to the Seton Hall Pirates 1-0 on Saturday evening. With the setback, the Hoyas slide to 20-9 on the season and 4-1 in conference play while Seton Hall improves to 17-13 and 1-1 in conference action.

ON THE RECORD
"Another great ballgame between two good teams today. Obviously, their pitcher was unbelievable tonight, tip of the cap to him, he was outstanding and dominated. The guy behind him was just as good and we couldn't get any rhythm or anything going even though we had some opportunities, we just couldn't cash in offensively. I thought our pitchers, Andrew Williams, Jordan Yoder, Kai Leckszas and Marshall Whitmer all did an outstanding job giving up only one unearned run. It was just one of those nights where the ball didn't fall our way. We will be ready to compete tomorrow in the series finale." – Head Coach Edwin Thompson

HOYA HIGHLIGHTS HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first two frames were scoreless for both sides. After a scoreless third, Seton Hall was able to put a runner on second with two outs in the top of the fourth. GU was able to hold the Pirate offense at bay as SHU left the runner stranded heading into the bottom half of the frame.
  • In the top of the fifth, SHU was able to put a runner on first after an error by the Hoya defense. In the ensuing at bat, the Pirates hit an RBI double to deep center as SHU tallied the first run of the contest. The Pirates were then able to load the bases with one out before the Hoyas made a pitching change. GU was able to work out of a jam as Jordan Yoder grabbed the final two outs of the inning with the bases loaded to keep the Hoya deficit at one.
  • In the bottom of the sixth, GU was able to put runners on first and second with two outs after back-to-back walks. The Hoyas were unable to bring either runner home trailing 1-0 heading into the seventh frame.
  • Seton Hall hit back-to-back one out singles to start the seventh. GU was able to, once again, work out of the jam as SHU left two runners stranded. In the bottom half of the frame, GU earned two walks putting runners on first and second with one out. Georgetown then earned another walk, loading the bases with two outs. Once again, GU was unable to bring any runners home leaving the bases loaded in the frame.
  • GU was able to put Hyde on third with one out in the bottom of the eighth, but once again, was unable to bring him home. SHU took a 1-0 lead into the final frame.
  • Georgetown was unable to mount a comeback in the ninth falling 1-0.
OF NOTE
