WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team defeated the Seton Hall Pirates 1-0 on Sunday afternoon as the Hoyas walked it off in the bottom of the ninth to secure their 21st victory of the season. The Georgetown pitching staff tossed 27-consecutive innings without allowing an earned run. GU was led by
Everett Catlett who tossed eight scoreless innings allowing three hits while striking out six Seton Hall batters. With the win, the Hoyas improve to 21-9 on the season and 5-1 in BIG EAST action while Seton Hall slides to 17-14 and 2-1 in conference play.
ON THE RECORD
"What an amazing performance from our pitching staff the entire weekend. To give up only one unearned run is unbelievable, Coach Capen and Coach Bankston have been phenomenal.
Owen Carapellotti and all of our pitchers have been excellent, but today's story was
Everett Catlett. He gave us everything he could, he gave us an amazing start going eight innings with no runs and three hits was fantastic. Getting
Cody Bowker back today was great for him and for us. I thought today's game came down to
Andrew Bergeron making one of the best catches I have seen in my 20+ years of coaching, saving a home run in the top of the ninth to keep the game tied up. Then for him to come back up and get on base in a big moment in the bottom of the ninth was huge for us. Their pitcher did a good job today just like ours but ultimately, we found a way to win and that is what you have to do in this league. We are looking forward to getting back out here on Tuesday against Maryland." – Head Coach
Edwin Thompson
