No. 16/11 Georgetown Faces Florida International on Monday

WASHINGTON - The No. 16 Georgetown University men's soccer team will welcome the Florida International University Panthers to Shaw Field on Monday afternoon in the second of a three-game homestand for the Blue & Gray. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloSports with Georgetown men's soccer alums Dan Helfrich and Tom Greaser back in the broadcast booth for their 20th season.

About the Hoyas
  • Georgetown (2-1) got a late goal from freshman Mitchell Baker to defeat the No. 18 UNC Greensboro Spartans (2-1) 1-0 in the team's home opener at Shaw Field on Friday afternoon.
  • Baker's unassisted goal in the 87th minute was the game winner and marked his third of the season.
  • It marked the Blue & Gray's first win over a ranked opponent this year.
  • The freshman has now scored all three of GU's goals this year, including both game winners.
  • On Monday, Baker was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll when the BIG EAST Conference announced its first weekly awards of the 2024 season.
  • Baker scored two goals in Georgetown's 2-0 victory over the University of Maryland on Sunday evening in College Park, Maryland.
  • He started in both games for the No. 16/11 Hoyas who went 1-1.
  • The Hoyas are currently ranked No. 16 in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll and No. 18 in the TopDrawerSoccer Preseason Poll.
About the Panthers
  • FIU is 0-3 on the season, but has played a pair of ranked opponents to start the year.
  • The Panthers fell to No. 25 Seton Hall, 1-0, in the home opener and then lost to Stetson by the same score on Monday.
  • FIU then faced No. 17 UNC dropping the decision 3-1 despite leading 1-0 at the half.
  • Forward Eduardo Mustre was named The American's Preseason Offensive Player of the Year as FIU was tabbed to finish second in the preseason poll.
  • In addition to Mustre, junior Joao Domingues, and seniors Bernardo Dos Santos Monteiro and Owen Travis were named to the American Preseason All-Conference team.

  • Georgetown is 0-1 all-time against the Panthers with the lone meeting coming at a neutral site in 1996.
