Hoyas Host No. 7 UConn at Entertainment & Sports Arena

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's basketball team will take on the No. 7 UConn Huskies in a BIG EAST Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon at the Entertainment and Sports Arena in Washington, D.C. Tipoff is slated for 4 p.m.

  • Georgetown (8-7, 1-3 BIG EAST) is coming off of a tough 77-62 loss to Villanova on Wednesday evening at McDonough Arena.
  • Graduate student Kelsey Ransom led the way with a career-high 35 points as well as tallying four steals in the contest.
  • Junior Modesti McConnell posted 10, and senior Kaliyah Myricks led on the glass with five boards to her credit.
  • For her efforts over two contests last week, senior Ariel Jenkins was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday for the first time in her career.
  • The senior averaged 14.5 points and an impressive 15.0 rebounds in a two-game week for Georgetown. She also managed 3.0 steals per game to go along with 2.0 blocks.
  • She posted her fourth double-double of the season and her career leading the Hoyas with a career-best 22 points and 14 rebounds in a 64-41 win over Xavier. She also pulled down a career-high 16 rebounds in an overtime loss at Seton Hall.
  • Ransom leads the league in scoring (20.6 ppg) and is second in assists (4.4 apg) as well as sitting fifth in steals (2.2 spg).
  • Junior Victoria Rivera is second on the team averaging 12.7 ppg. She is currently leading the BIG EAST in 3-pointers with 42, and is second in the league in 3-point percentage hitting 40.8 percent.
  • Jenkins rounds out those averaging in double figures scoring 12.7 ppg with a quartet of double-doubles on the season. She also leads the league on the glass with 10.4 rpg and sits at fifth in the BIG EAST in blocks averaging 1.4 per game.
About the Huskies
  • The seventh-ranked Huskies are 14-2 on the season as the squad is coming off of a huge 81-27 win over Xavier on Wednesday evening.
  • Azzi Fudd led the Huskies with 23 points in the win, while Allie Ziebell had 17, Sarah Strong scored 15 and Jana El Alfy managed 11.
  • Paige Bueckers leads the squad with 19.9 ppg, but missed the Xavier game due to injury.
  • Strong is second averaging 17.3 ppg as well as a team-high 7.8 rpg.
Series Info
  • This will be the 63rd meeting between the two BIG EAST teams dating back to 1982, with UConn leading the series 56-6.
  • Earlier this season, the squads met in Harford and GU lost 79-44.
  • The last meeting at ESA was an 83-55 Hoya loss a season ago.
  •   The teams have met in the BIG EAST Tournament the past three seasons meaning Saturday will be the 12th time Ransom will face off against UConn in her career.
