Hoyas Head to Providence for Saturday Matchup Against the Friars

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's basketball team will head out on the road to take on the Providence College Friars in a BIG EAST Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Hall in Providence, Rhode Island. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m.

About the Hoyas
  • Georgetown (8-9, 1-5 BIG EAST) is coming off of a tough 63-53 loss to the Butler University Bulldogs on Tuesday evening at historic Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.  
  • Graduate student Kelsey Ransom led the way with 16 points, while freshman Khadee Hession had 15 and the two guards combined for six steals on the defensive end.
  • Senior Ariel Jenkins was also in double figures, posting 10 points in the contest as well as a squad-best nine boards.
  • The Blue & Gray shot 44.0% (12-28) from the field, but allowed the Bulldogs 47.1% (24-51) shooting in the contest.
  • Georgetown was outrebounded by Butler, 35-20, and forced 15 Bulldog turnovers on eight steals.
  • For her efforts over two contests last week, Ransom was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday for the fifth time this season, and the 14th time in her career.
  • The graduate student averaged 22.0 points and 5.5 rebounds in a two-game week for Georgetown. She also managed 3.5 steals per game to go along with 3.0 assists.
  • She posted a career-high 35 points against Villanova, and also had eight rebounds against UConn.
  • Ransom leads the league in scoring (19.6 ppg) and is second in assists (4.2 apg) as well as sitting third in steals (2.2 spg).
  • Junior Victoria Rivera is second on the team averaging 12.6 ppg. She is currently second in the BIG EAST in 3-pointers with 44, and is second in the league in 3-point percentage hitting 40.0 percent. Rivera missed the last game due to injury.
  • Jenkins rounds out those averaging in double figures scoring 12.3 ppg with a quartet of double-doubles on the season. She also leads the league on the glass with 10.1 rpg and sits at fifth in the BIG EAST in blocks averaging 1.3 per game.
About the Friars
  • Providence is 9-11 overall and 2-5 in BIG EAST play. The Friars are coming off of a 51-45 win over Xavier on Wednesday.
  • Olivia Olsen led the way for Providence in the victory with 21 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Brynn Farrell added 14 points as well.
  • Grace Efosa is PC's top scorer averaging 14.3 ppg, while Olsen is second with 8.9 ppg as well as 8.1 rpg.
  • The Friars were selected third in the BIG EAST Preseason Poll.
Series Info
  • This will be the 76th meeting between the two BIG EAST teams dating back to 1981-82, the Hoyas are 43-32 against the Friars.
  • The Hoyas are 19-17 in the series on the road.
  • The last meeting was a 54-44 victory at home a season ago as Ransom led the Hoyas with 22 points in the contest.
  • The last meeting at Alumni Hall was in early January, 2024 as GU managed the 73-71 win off of a layup from Ransom with four ticks on the clock.
