Hoyas Host St. John’s on Wednesday

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's basketball team will return home and host the St. John's University Red Storm in a BIG EAST Conference matchup on Wednesday evening at McDonough Arena. The opening tip is scheduled for 7 p.m.

About the Hoyas
  • Georgetown (9-9, 2-5 BIG EAST) is coming off of a 60-48 win over the Providence College Friars on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Hall in Providence, Rhode Island.   
  • Junior Victoria Rivera led the way with 19 points, going 5-7 from beyond the arc.
  • Senior Ariel Jenkins was dominant down low posting 16 points and 12 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season. She was also an impressive 6-6 from the charity stripe.
  • The Blue & Gray shot 36.4% (20-55) from the field, and held the Friars to 37.0% (20-54) shooting in the contest.
  • Georgetown outrebounded Providence, 39-29, and forced 15 Friar turnovers on seven steals.
  • For her efforts in the one contest she appeared in last week, Rivera was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday for the first time this season, and the second time in her career.
  • Ransom is second in the league in scoring (19.1 ppg), third in assists (4.1 apg) and also third in steals (2.2 spg).
  • Rivera is second on the team averaging 12.9 ppg. She currently leads the BIG EAST in 3-pointers with 49, and is second in the league in 3-point percentage hitting 41.9 percent.
  • Jenkins rounds out those averaging in double figures scoring 12.5 ppg with a quintet of double-doubles on the season. She also leads the league on the glass with 10.2 rpg and sits at fifth in the BIG EAST in blocks averaging 1.2 per game.
About the Red Storm
  • St. John's is 11-7 overall and 1-6 in BIG EAST play. SJU is coming off of a tough 66-64 loss to Villanova on Saturday in Queens, New York.
  • The Red Storm rallied to score the game's final six points and nearly erased a 10-point deficit in the final 2:25.
  • Kylie Lavelle tallied 13 points, five rebounds and a career-best four blocks in the contest that saw five Red Storm players score in double figures.
  • Lashae Dwyer is leading SJU in scoring averaging 13.7 ppg.
Series Info
  • This will be the 76th meeting between the two BIG EAST teams dating back to 1980-81, the Hoyas are 32-43 against the Red Storm.
  • The Hoyas are 19-17 in the series at home. 
  • The last meeting was a 53-44 victory during the BIG EAST quarterfinals at Mohegan Sun when sixth-seeded GU upset third-seeded SJU. The Hoyas would eventually advance to the BIG EAST Championship.
  • Georgetown was 2-1 against St. John's a season ago.
  • The last home meeting was a 51-43 GU victory at McDonough Arena. Brianna Scott led the way with 21 points and nine rebounds to lead the Hoyas in both categories. Ransom added 11 points and three steals to go along with five rebounds.
