Georgetown Men’s Basketball Travels to No. 7 Marquette On Tuesday

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team will hit the road to take on No. 7 Marquette on Tuesday. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. at Fiserv Forum and the game will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network. The Blue & Gray enters Tuesday's contest with a 12-2 record overall and a 3-0 mark in league action following a 69-63 win over Xavier on Friday.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • On Friday, the Hoyas defeated the Xavier Musketeers 69-63 at Capital One Arena. Malik Mack led all scorers and a trio of Hoyas in double figures with 26 points, including 20 in the second half, while Micah Peavy chipped in 15 and Thomas Sorber added 12. Peavy added a squad-best 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season.
  • For their efforts over the last two games, Sorber was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for the fourth time this season after averaging 17.0 ppg, 8.5 rpg and 3.0 bpg while Mack was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll. Mack tallied 20.5 ppg while dishing out 7.0 apg.
  • Sorber leads a quartet of Hoyas in double figures, averaging 15.4 ppg, good enough to rank 10th in the BIG EAST. Jayden Epps chips in 14.7 ppg, followed by Mack (13.7) and Peavy (13.3). With all four ranking among the top 30 in scoring in the BIG EAST, Georgetown is the lone school with a quartet among the league's top 30.
  • Sorber leads the squad on the glass grabbing 8.1 rpg, also tied for the league lead, followed by Drew Fielder (5.8 rpg) and Peavy (4.9 rpg).
  • Mack paces the offense dishing out 4.8 apg with Peavy right behind him with 4.1 apg.
  • Peavy ranks 15th in the country and second in the BIG EAST in steals per game, picking 2.5 pockets per game.
  • Sorber has four double-doubles to his name, tied for third in the league. Against Coppin State, the freshman tallied his fourth game with 20+ points moving him into a tie for ninth for GU freshmen with multiple 20+ games since the 1972-73 season.
  • Defensively, the team ranks third in the league in steals per game (8.7). The Hoyas are forcing opponents to commit 14.43 turnovers per game, which ranks third in the conference.
  • Georgetown leads the BIG EAST in field goal percentage in conference matchups, boasting an impressive 50.9% shooting efficiency.
 
ABOUT THE No. 7/6 GOLDEN EAGLES
  • In its most recent outing, Marquette secured a 79-71 victory over Creighton, improving to 13-2 overall and 4-0 in conference play heading into Tuesday's game. Kam Jones led the Golden Eagles with 22 points, shooting 8-for-22 from the field. Stevie Mitchell and David Joplin followed with 18 and 11 points, respectively. Jones led on the glass with nine rebounds, while also pacing the offense with five assists.
  • Jones leads Marquette in scoring averaging 20.3 ppg. Joplin follows up with 14.1 ppg while Mitchell chips in 12.1 ppg.
  • Joplin leads the Golden Eagles on the glass with 5.5 rpg, followed by Jones (5.0 rpg) and Mitchell (4.3 rpg).
  • Jones paces the offense, dishing out 6.5 apg.
  • Marquette is led by Shaka Smart in his third season.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES WITH MARQUETTE
  • Tuesday's matchup will be the 38th all-time meeting between the two teams dating back to 1941.
  • Georgetown trails 23-14 in the all-time series. The Blue & Gray's last victory over the Golden Eagles came on March 10, 2021, with a 68-49 win at Madison Square Garden in the BIG EAST Tournament.
