WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's soccer team downed Providence 5-0 on Wednesday night at Shaw Field. With the win, GU improves to 11-2-2 overall and 7-0 in BIG EAST play, while Providence falls to 4-4-3 and 1-3-2 in league action.
Head Coach Dave Nolan
"Tonight was another good performance by the girls. Not an easy game. Providence is a very well coached team. They set up a certain way, which they hadn't been playing for this season. So it made it a little bit challenging for us to try and adjust to that. We prepared for something different, but we had an idea that they may try and do something different. And I thought it took us a little bit to get into it. Then we got the early goal, which really helped settle it. Then we added the second, and then it was just a matter of, okay, could we just manage the game a little bit? But give them credit. They kept playing. They kept trying to play. They kept asking questions. It asked a lot of our midfield in there, because we had three in there against our four. But I thought Shay and Lizzy did a really good job working hard to try and make it difficult for them. And then on the attacking side of the ball, it was good to see some of our opportunities that we created some really good chances, and maybe could have had another one or two, but we'll take it three points. Got to get a bunch of kids on the field tonight, which was great. And now we have a tough game out in Milwaukee on Saturday night against a Marquette team that will be courting a little bit after that game today, so that will be a big test for us, but we're in a good spot right now, and the kids are excited to keep this run going."
