No. 15/22 Georgetown Hosts Villanova on Saturday

WASHINGTON - The No. 15/22 Georgetown University men's soccer team will host the Villanova University Wildcats on Saturday at Shaw Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m., and the BIG EAST Conference matchup will be broadcast live on ESPN+ with Georgetown alums Dan Helfrich and JT Marcinkowski calling the action.

  • Saturday is also Alumni Day where men's soccer alums will return to the pitch. The 2015 team will be honored for their BIG EAST Championship.
About the Hoyas
  • Georgetown (8-3-3, 4-0-1) is coming off of a 3-0 victory at DePaul last Saturday.
  • The Hoyas scored two goals in the first half, and added an insurance goal in the second for the squad's BIG EAST win on the road.
  • For their efforts against DePaul, senior Diego Letayf was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week and sophomore Mitchell Baker earned BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. Additionally, sophomore Charlie DeMarco was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
  • Letayf and DeMarco were part of a defense that came up with the shutout, allowing just one shot on goal for the Blue Demons.
  • Baker managed a goal and an assist in the victory in Chicago.
  • Senior Zach Zengue is leading the squad in scoring with 12 goals and six assists for 30 points on the season. He is fourth in the nation in total goals, and is fifth in the country in points.
  • Baker is second in goals with six on the season, while junior Matthew Van Horn leads the squad in assists with six. 
  • Senior Tenzing Manske has played 1,125 minutes in the goal and has a 0.85 goals-against average as well as six shutouts and 29 saves.
About the Wildcats
  • Villanova is currently 5-4-5 overall and 1-1-3 in BIG EAST Conference play.
  • The squad is coming off of a 3-0 victory against VMI on Tuesday at the Higgins Soccer Complex.
  • The Wildcats scored just six minutes into the match and never looked back as Josh Oladele had a goal and an assist in the win.
  • Sam Nyenka is leading the way with three goals and one assist for seven points on the season. He is followed by Fynn Lahrsen with two goals and one assist for five points on the year.
  • The 'Cats have gone 2-0-2 in their last four outings with wins over VMI and NJIT (1-0), as well as draws with Seton Hall (1-1) and Creighton (1-1).

  • The Hoyas are 34-11-6 all-time against the Wildcats and 21-5-2 at home.
  • Last year, Georgetown played Villanova to a 3-3 draw in Pennsylvania.
  • The Wildcats managed the first two goals, but the Hoyas answered from Tate Lampman and Matthew Van Horn. The 'Cats added one more, but the tying goal came in the 85th minute from Jack Heaps.
  • The last meeting at Shaw Field was a 2-0 victory in 2023 as Jacob Murrell and Kieran Sargeant both scored for the Blue & Gray in the second half.
