Georgetown to Battle UConn in BIG EAST Final

WASHINGTON - The top-seeded Georgetown University men's soccer team will face the third-seeded UConn Huskies in the BIG EAST Conference Final on Sunday at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, Maryland. Kickoff is slated for 12 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ with Anthony Mazzini and Monika Moore calling the action.

About the Hoyas
  • Georgetown (11-3-4) is coming off of a 2-0 victory over fourth-seeded Providence in the BIG EAST semifinal on Thursday evening.
  • Mitchell Baker scored both goals for the Blue & Gray as the Hoyas advanced to the final for the 14th time in program history.
  • On Wednesday, Zach Zengue was named the BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year when the conference announced its yearly honors. Additionally, the coaching staff was named the BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year.
  • Zengue was also a unanimous selection to the first team, sophomore Mitchell Baker was another unanimous First Team All-BIG EAST honoree, while junior Eric Howard also earned a spot on the first team.
  • Graduate student captain Diego Letayf was a Second Team All-BIG EAST selection. The third team included senior Tenzing Manske as well as junior Matthew Van Horn.
  • Zengue is leading the squad in scoring with 13 goals and 11 assists for 37 points on the season. He is sixth in the nation in total goals, third in assists and third in the country in points.
  • Baker is second in goals with 11 on the season to go along with two assists for 20 points. His 11 goals rank him second in the BIG EAST and 14th in the nation. 
  • Manske has played 1,485 minutes in goal and has a 0.79 goals-against average as well as nine total shutouts and 38 saves.
  • The Hoyas are currently ranked No. 11 nationally in the United Soccer Coaches Poll and sit at No. 18 in the RPI.
About the Huskies
  • UConn is currently 11-3-4 overall and earned the third seed in the tournament.
  • The squad defeated second-seeded Akron, 2-1, on Thursday evening to advance to the championship match.
  • Six UConn men's soccer student-athletes were named to All-BIG EAST teams as Sabri Hanni earned First Team All-BIG EAST honors for the first time in his career.
  • UConn earned a conference best four student-athletes on the All-BIG EAST Second Team in Kyle Durham, Charlie Holmes, Ayoub Lajhar, and Nicolas Tomerius.
Tournament Information
  • The Hoyas are 18-14-4 all-time against the Huskies, and 3-2-0 in the BIG EAST Tournament.
  • The squads have met in the championship on one occasion (1999) with the Hoyas falling 2-0 in that meeting.
  • Earlier this season, the Hoyas and Huskies met at Shaw Field as Georgetown came away with the 4-1 victory. UConn scored early, but the Hoyas managed four unanswered including two from Zach Zengue.
  • Georgetown is 28-21-7 in the BIG EAST tourney and 6-6-1 in championship matches.
  • Georgetown has qualified for eight of the past nine BIG EAST Tournaments, advancing to and winning the championship in six (2015, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2024).
