WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team defeated the Morgan State Bears, 87-70, on opening night of the 2025-26 college basketball season at home in Washington, D.C. at Capital One Arena. With the win, Georgetown improves to 1-0 on the season while the Bears drop to 0-1.
ON THE RECORD
"I like Morgan State's team. I like them a lot. I think they're going to be really good, I think they're going to do really, really well in their league. They have great size, their guards can score and they can shoot. I think overall, just like we have shown in our exhibition games and in Canada, I think our overall depth was able to wear them down a little bit, and I thought the guys that came off the bench gave us incredible energy. These two guys up here,
Jayden Fort and
DeShawn Harris-Smith, I think were game changers for us, right, just with their physicality." - Head Coach
Ed Cooley
"I thought our energy was great in the shootaround, I thought the energy was great in the locker room. Coaches always tell me, fly around. So I know that if I get active and I'm on the glass, everything is gonna come to me. So that was my focus going into the game. I'm getting a little comfortable out there. You know, it's my first real year with last year being a redshirt. This year, I'm trying to get my feet under myself. So it's been fun. It's been a great learning experience." -

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Hoyas got off to a slow start as Morgan State took advantage early, leading by as many as six (11-5) early. The Hoyas began to chip away, stringing together a 12-2 run fueled almost entirely by the charity stripe as all but five points came from free throws.

- Georgetown would lead by as many as 13 (42-29) before the Bears closed the frame on a 5-0 run. The squads went into the locker room with the Hoyas up 42-34.
- The second half saw a fired up Hoya team come out on the floor and the lead ballooned to as many as 29 on a Lewis fastbreak dunk.
