Georgetown Men’s Basketball Hosts Coppin State at McDonough Arena

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team returns to McDonough Arena Monday night to host the Coppin State Eagles for the second of two games at its on-campus home. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET at McDonough Arena.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • In the last outing, Georgetown (8-4, 1-1 BE) fell to Xavier Saturday evening, 80-77, at Capital One Arena. Malik Mack led a trio of Hoyas in double figures with 21 points on eight made field goals. Julius Halaifonua scored 19 points on 7-for-9 shooting from the field, while KJ Lewis poured in 15 points of his own. Jeremiah Williams grabbed a squad-best seven rebounds and paced the offense with four assists. Lewis and Caleb Williams combined for 12 rebounds, pulling down six apiece.
  • A quintet of Hoyas are scoring in double figures led by Mack who is tallying 15.2 ppg, while Lewis averages 14.3 ppg, Halaifonua scores 11.9 ppg, Vince Iwuchukwu manages 11.8 ppg and C. Williams notches 11.2 ppg. Mack's 15.2 ppg ranks ninth in the BIG EAST Conference, while Lewis' 14.3 ppg is tied for 10th in the conference.
  • C. Williams leads the Hoyas on the glass grabbing 5.9 rpg, followed by Lewis (5.7 rpg) and Halaifonua (5.0 rpg).
  • Mack paces the offense with 4.4 apg, which ranks fourth in the league, followed by Lewis and J. Williams, who average 2.8 apg apiece.
  • Lewis leads the BIG EAST and the Hoyas in strips with 2.3 spg.
  • Before the start of the 2025-26 season, Lewis was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Second Team and Mack was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Third Team. The Hoyas were also selected sixth in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll.
 
ABOUT THE EAGLES
  • Coppin State enters the matchup with a 2-13 start to the 2025-26 season.
  • Coppin State went 6-24 during the 2024-25 season with a 4-10 mark in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.
  • In its last outing, Coppin State fell to Navy on Friday at Alumni Hall, 88-55. Hussain Williams led the Eagles with 13 points, followed by Torrin Andrews, who chipped in 11. Taj Thweatt grabbed a squad-best eight rebounds. A trio of Eagles, including Williams, Nelson Lamizana and Hassan Perkins, paced the Eagle offense with two assists each.
  • Demariontay Hall leads Coppin State in scoring, averaging 8.8 ppg, followed by Lamizana (7.9 ppg) and Khali Horton (7.3 ppg).
  • Hall leads the Eagles on the glass, grabbing 5.7 rpg.
  • Perkins' 2.7 apg paces the Eagle offense.
  • Coppin State is led by Head Coach Larry Stewart in his third season.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES
  • Georgetown and Coppin State will meet for the seventh time in program history, with the Hoyas holding a 6-0 record in the series.
  • The last meeting between the two teams was December 28, 2024 with the Blue & Gray winning 83-53 at Capital One Arena. Thomas Sorber, now with the defending NBA Champions Oklahoma City Thunder, and Drew Fielder combined for 42 points in the 30-point victory. Sorber led all scorers with 22 points on 9-for-12 shooting, while Fielder posted 20 points and Mack rounded out those in double figures with 15 points.
