Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Towson in Triple Overtime

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown women's lacrosse team (1-1) fell 10-9 to the Towson Tigers (1-1) after battling through triple overtime.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Towson got the scoring started at the 6:55 mark of the first quarter with two-consecutive goals scored by Valerie Thompson and Savannah Safchuck 20 seconds apart. 
  • The Hoyas responded a minute later with two goals of their own from Gracie Driggs and Emma Gebhardt. At the end of the first quarter, the Hoyas were tied 2-2 with the Tigers.
  • Towson regained the lead at the 9:59 mark of the second quarter with a goal from Halley Koras. Maley Starr tied the contest 3-3 at the 8:13 mark. 
  • At the 7:14 mark of the second, Driggs scored her second goal of the evening to earn the Hoyas their first lead of the competition.
  • GU and Towson exchanged one goal apiece before the Tigers closed out the half with a goal from Ocea Leavy. At halftime, the contest was tied 5-5.
  • The Hoyas opened up the third quarter with two goals to go up 7-5. At the 10:57 mark, Milana Zizakovic scored for Towson but GU responded four minutes later with a goal from Molly Byrne
  • Towson closed out the third quarter with two goals to tie the contest 8-8. 
  • The Tigers kept their scoring run going into the fourth quarter with a goal by Thompson at the 13:32 mark. Sophia Loschert tied the contest with her third goal of the season to send the game to overtime. 
  • Katie Roszko scored the game-winning goal for Towson in the third overtime period with two minutes remaining. 
OF NOTE
  • Driggs and Loschert led the offense with two goals each. 
  • Driggs also led the Hoyas with seven draw controls. 
  • Anne McGovern, Rileigh Meyer, Byrne, Gebhardt and Starr each contributed one goal. 
  • Six Hoyas contributed a caused turnover led by Trinity Koetje with two. 
  • Goalie Leah Warehime made eight saves on the evening. 
  • GU outshot the Tigers 36-28.
UP NEXT
  • The Hoyas will hit the road to take on No.7 Maryland in College Park on Tuesday, February 18. Opening draw is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
