Georgetown Men’s Basketball Travels to Indianapolis to Face Butler

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team travels to the Crossroads of America to face the Butler University Bulldogs on Saturday, February 15. Tipoff at Hinkle Fieldhouse is scheduled for 2 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on FS1 with Cooper Boardman calling the play-by-play and Shelvin Mack providing analysis. Georgetown enters Saturday's contest with a 15-9 record and a 6-7 mark in league action following a 60-46 victory over Seton Hall last Saturday at Capital One Arena.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • On Saturday afternoon, Georgetown defeated Seton Hall 60-46 at Capital One Arena behind a 22-point outing from Micah Peavy. The graduate student was sensational, shooting 10-for-20 from the field while chipping in seven rebounds and four assists. Thomas Sorber tallied his eighth double-double of the season tallying 13 points on 6-for-12 shooting while pulling down 11 boards. Caleb Williams rounded out the Hoyas in double figures tallying 12 points on 4-for-5 shooting from the field and a 2-for-3 effort from beyond the arc.
  • On Monday, Sorber was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for the seventh time this season after averaging 15.0 ppg on 58.3% (14-24) shooting to go along with 7.0 rpg in a 1-1 week for the Blue & Gray. Peavy was named to the Weekly Honor Roll after averaging 24.5 ppg on 53.8% (21-39) shooting.
  • Peavy leads a quartet of Hoyas averaging double figures posting 15.2 ppg, a mark that is ninth in the BIG EAST. Sorber chips in 14.7 ppg, followed by Mack (12.6 ppg) and Jayden Epps (11.8 ppg). Georgetown and Marquette are the only institutions with four players among the top 30 in scoring in the league.
  • Sorber leads the squad on the glass pulling down 8.7 rpg, which leads the league, followed by Peavy (5.4 rpg) and Drew Fielder (5.3 rpg).
  • Mack paces the offense dishing out 4.7 apg, a mark that ranks seventh in the BE.
  • Peavy ranks 15th in the country and is second in the BIG EAST in steals per game, picking 2.3 pockets per game.
  • Sorber has eight double-doubles to his name, which leads the league. His eight double-doubles leads the nation among freshmen, just ahead of Ace Bailey (Rutgers) and Derik Queen (Maryland) who each have seven to their credit.
  • Defensively, the team is first in the league in scoring defense, allowing an average of 64.9 ppg. GU ranks third in the BIG EAST and 31st in the nation in field goal percentage defense (40.3%). The Hoyas are third in the league in steals per game (8.2) and are forcing opponents to commit 14.21 turnovers per game, which ranks third in the conference.
 
ABOUT THE BULLDOGS
  • In its most recent outing, Butler (11-13, 4-9 BE) defeated the Providence College Friars 82-81 at Hinkle Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon. Jahmyl Telfort led the Bulldog offense with 24 points on 9-for-17 shooting. Telfort led a quartet of Bulldogs in double figures as Pierre Brooks II (18), Finley Bizjack (15) and Patrick McCaffery (11) rounded out those in double figures for BU. McCaffery and Telfort paced the offense with four assists apiece. Andre Screen led the squad on the glass pulling down 10 boards in the contest. Butler shot 50.0% (30-60) from the field.
  • Telfort leads a trio of Bulldogs averaging double figures posting 16.0 ppg, followed by Brooks II (14.9 ppg) and McCaffery (12.1 ppg).
  • Screen leads Butler on the glass pulling down 6.1 rpg, followed by Brooks II (5.1 rpg).
  • Telfort paced the offense, dishing out 3.5 apg, followed by Bizjack (2.1 apg).
  • Butler is led by Thad Matta, who is in the third season of his second stint back with the Bulldogs. Matta was the Butler head coach previously for one year in 2000.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES WITH BUTLER
  • Saturday's matchup will be the second meeting this season and the 26th all-time meeting between the two institutions dating back to the 2009-10 season. Butler leads the all-time series 13-12. The Blue & Gray's last victory over the Bulldogs was on January 31, 2025 as GU downed Butler 73-70 at Capital One arena.
  • Head Coach Ed Cooley is 19-7 against Butler in his career and is 3-3 all-time against Thad Matta.
