INDIANAPOLIS – Despite five in double figures, the Georgetown University men's basketball team could not contain a hot-shooting Butler University squad, falling 97-86 at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on Saturday afternoon. With the setback, Georgetown slips to 15-10 on the season with a 6-8 mark in BIG EAST play. Butler improves to 12-13 overall with a 5-9 record in league action.
ON THE RECORD
"You know, it was a tough game and it's tough to win on the road. You've gotta give them a lot of credit. I thought Butler played great. It's tough to win on the road in our league. I'm very disappointed in our lack of chemistry defensively and with our lack of toughness. Most of the time in the BIG EAST, if you score 86 points, you normally win by 15 or 20 points. It's something that we'll get better at."

Ed Cooley
"Not having Thomas really hurt, especially with rim protection. But at the same time, we tell our guys, everybody's gotta be ready to play, right? You never know when an opportunity is gonna knock." - Head Coach

HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
- Micah Peavy led a quintet of Hoyas in double figures with 21 points on eight made field goals. The graduate student chipped in squad bests of 10 assists, seven rebounds and three steals in the contest. It was his second double-double of the season and the fourth of his career.
- Malik Mack added 18 points, followed up by Jayden Epps' 15 points (5-10 FG), Jordan Burks' 11 (4-7 FG) and Thomas Sorber's 10 (5-5 FG).
- Burks added a game-best two blocks on the day.
- For the game, Georgetown shot 41.8% (33-79), including nine made shots from beyond the arc.
- The Blue & Gray outrebounded the Bulldogs 39-36.
- GU forced 14 Butler turnovers on 10 steals, while committing just seven turnovers of their own.
BUTLER HIGHLIGHTS
- Pierre Brooks II led the Bulldog offense with 30 points on 10-for-13 shooting from the floor. Finley Bizjack followed Brooks II with 15 points on 5-for-9 shooting.
- Landon Moore led Butler on the glass pulling down six rebounds in the contest. Four other Bulldogs grabbed five rebounds apiece.
- Butler shot 57.7% (30-52) from the field and 45.0% (9-20) from behind the arc.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Georgetown got off to a quick start behind the play of Sorber, who tallied eight of GU's first nine points, as the Hoyas held a slim 9-8 advantage. Butler drained a triple to regain the lead before an Epps layup sparked an 8-0 Hoya run that included treys from Drew Fielder and Mack.
- Both teams continued to trade buckets but Butler's Brooks II and Bizjack were getting hot for the home team as the duo chipped away at the GU lead.
- Butler poured in the points down the stretch to lead by as many as 14 before taking a 46-35 lead into the break.
- A Peavy 3-pointer opened the second half to pull the blue & Gray within single digits. However, every time the Hoyas chipped away, Butler found an answer on the other end.
- Despite a Curtis Williams Jr. bucket cutting the deficit to eight once again, foul trouble plagued the visiting team as the Bulldogs ballooned the lead to as many as 15 with continued trips to the line.
- A Peavy jumper was followed up by a Mack triple and a pair of Epps free throws as the Hoyas tallied seven unanswered to make it a two-possession game (71-65). That's as close as the Hoyas would get as Butler found a way to pull away once again, leading by as many as 17 down the stretch before going on for the 97-86 win.
OF NOTE
- Peavy's 10 assists matched his career high set on December 16, 2023 against Arizona State.
- In less than 12 minutes of action, Sorber tallied 10 points on 5-for-5 shooting to go along with three rebounds and one steal. He left the game in the first half with a lower body injury and did not return to the game.
- Georgetown dished out 22 assists, the most since tallying 26 helpers against UAlbany on November 30. The 22 dimes is the most in a BIG EAST game this season.
