How it Happened
  • A defensive battle from the opening whistle to the final horn, Georgetown got on the board first with a Cesare goal at the 6:15 mark in the first quarter. Bayman netted his first goal of the game just 28 seconds later to give GU the 2-0 advantage before Penn scored its first goal of the game with just 1:31 remaining in the opening stanza.
  • In the second, Penn knotted things up at 2-2 five minutes into the period. With scoring and shots few and far between, the Blue & Gray found a later offensive surge with back-to-back goals at the 2:36 and 1:57 marks from Wray and Carroll, respectively. The Quakers would add a late goal with 43 seconds remaining in the half to salvage a 4-3 score heading into the break.
  • Coming out of the locker room, both teams found a spark with three goals each in the third. Georgetown opened with Bayman's second goal of the game 48 seconds into the half, but Penn responded 1:10 later to keep it a one-goal game at 5-4. A barrage of goals in the final five minutes saw the Quakers respond to every GU goal, making it 7-6 with their final goal at the 2:16 mark.
  • Georgetown's suffocating defense clamped down even harder in the fourth, blanking Penn in the quarter while allowing just four shots down the stretch. Prince's transition goal off the opening faceoff gave the Hoyas a two-goal cushion en route to the 8-6 victory.
Penn Notes
  • Griffin Scane led the Quakers with two goals while Cam Rubin added a goal and two assists.
  • In goal, Emmet Carroll (0-1) had 13 saves in the loss, including six in the first quarter.
