Georgetown Hosts Marquette for Pink Game on Saturday

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's basketball team will return home and host the Marquette University Golden Eagles in a BIG EAST Conference matchup on Saturday evening at McDonough Arena. The opening tip is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday will also be GU's Pink Game as the Hoyas will wear pink to support breast cancer research as well as in honor of former head coach Tasha Butts who lost her battle with breast cancer in 2023.

About the Hoyas
  • Georgetown (11-15, 4-11 BIG EAST) lost a close one 70-65 to the Villanova University Wildcats on Wednesday evening in a BIG EAST Conference matchup at Finneran Pavilion in Villanova, Pennsylvania.
  • Graduate student Kelsey Ransom led the way with 25 points, 10 boards as well as four assists and two steals. It marked her ninth-career double-double.
  • Senior Ariel Jenkins managed 16 points to go along with 11 rebounds for her 10th double-double of the season.
  • Freshman Khadee Hession rounded out those in double figures tallying 11 points in the contest.
  • The Blue & Gray shot 42.3% (22-52) from the field, but allowed the Wildcats 45.3% (24-53) shooting in the contest.
  • Georgetown outrebounded Villanova, 33-29, and forced 10 VU turnovers on three steals.
  • Ransom is leading the league in scoring (19.8 ppg) and sits at third in steals (2.2 spg).
  • Jenkins is second on the team, averaging 12.0 ppg. She leads the league on the glass with 10.2 rpg and in double-doubles with 10 on the year. Here 4.4 offensive rebounds per game is ninth in the country.
  • Junior Victoria Rivera rounds out those averaging in double figures, scoring 11.6 ppg. She is third in the BIG EAST in 3-pointers, with 59, and fourth in 3-point percentage, hitting 36.9 percent.
About the Golden Eagles
  • Marquette is 18-8 overall and 10-5 in BIG EAST play. MU is coming off of a 69-51 victory over Providence on Wednesday evening in Milwaukee.
  • A third quarter push helped the Golden Eagles get past PC as Lee Volker had 14 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals.
  • Jaidynn Mason had 11 points, four assists and three steals.
  • Skylar Forbes is leading the team with 15.6 ppg, while Volker is averaging 13.4 ppg and Halle Vice has 11.0 ppg, respectively.
  • MU is led by Cara Consuegra in her first season at the helm after serving as an assistant from 2004-11.
Series Info
  • This will be the 33rd meeting between the two BIG EAST teams dating back to 2005-06, the Hoyas are 4-28 against the Golden Eagles and 3-12 at home.  
  • The last meeting was a tough 75-58 loss in Milwaukee earlier this season.
  • Ransom led the way with 25 points, going a perfect 6-6 from the line.
  • Jenkins was solid down low posting 16 points and 10 rebounds, she was also 4-4 at the line.
  • The last meeting at McDonough Arena was a 78-57 loss on December 2, 2022.
  • GU's last win against Marquette was an 85-58 home victory in 2018.
