Women’s Lacrosse Defeats William & Mary 19-7

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown women's lacrosse team (2-2) captured a dominating 19-7 victory over William & Mary (1-2) on Saturday evening. The Hoyas were led by graduate student Hanna Bishop with 10 points (4G, 6A).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Hoyas jumped out to a quick start, scoring less than a minute into the first quarter. GU went on a three-goal scoring run to gain an early 3-0 lead. The Tribe responded with two goals, but Maley Starr scored a final first-quarter goal for GU with 10 seconds on the clock. 
  • Molly Byrne and Gracie Driggs scored back-to-back goals at the beginning of the second quarter to put GU up 6-2. W&M made it a two-goal game (6-4) after two-consecutive goals scored a minute apart. 
  • The Hoyas took a commanding lead (12-4) after going on a six-goal scoring run. Anna Dawson found the back of the net for the Tribe at the 3:15 mark of the third, but the Hoyas responded with two more goals to lead 14-5 at the quarter. 
  • Dawson recorded her second goal of the evening 29 seconds into the fourth quarter. GU went on another scoring run of five goals to close out the game, including two goals from Bishop and Ryan Kinkead and Sydney Richter's first goal as a Hoya. The Tribe managed to find the back of the net with 30 seconds left but the Blue & Gray would clinch the 19-7 victory. 
OF NOTE
  • Bishop led the offense with 10 points (4G, 6A), followed by Anne McGovern with four (1G, 3A). 
  • Ten Hoyas scored a goal with Bishop leading the way with four, followed by Driggs and Emma Gebhardt with three, Bryne and Reagan Ziegler with two and Kinkead, Starr, McGovern, Ritcher and Loscher each notched one. 
  • In the circle, Driggs led with six draw controls followed by Lily Athanas with five. Athanas now has 104 career draw controls. 
  • In net, Leah Warehime made five saves while Olivia Shinsato made three and Amanda Reed recorded one.  
UP NEXT
The Hoyas will return to Cooper Field for a Tuesday evening competition against Johns Hopkins on February 25. Opening draw is scheduled for 4 p.m.
