Women’s Lacrosse Falls to No. 10 Johns Hopkins

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown women's lacrosse team (2-3) fell 19-10 to No. 10 Johns Hopkins (3-2) on Tuesday evening on Cooper Field.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Blue Jays tallied the first goal 25 seconds into the first quarter, but Emma Gebhardt responded a minute later for the Hoyas to make it a 1-1 game. JHU went on a five-goal scoring run to jump out to a 6-1 lead to close out the first.
  • The Blue Jays kept their scoring run going into the second with a goal from Megan Kielbasa five and a half minutes into the second. Lauren Steer and Gracie Driggs scored back-to-back goals to bring the Hoyas within three (6-3). At the 2:21 mark, Annie Marshall scored for JHU, but Anne McGovern would get the last goal of the half for the Hoyas. At halftime the Hoyas trailed 7-4.
  • Molly Byrne opened the third quarter with a goal at the 11:54 mark. The Blue Jays responded with two free position goals from Charlotte Smith and Samantha DiCarlo. Steer scored her second goal of the evening at the 10:18 mark of the third quarter. The Blue Jays jumped out to a 12-6 lead after scoring six goals, including four from Ashley Mackin. At the end of the third, JHU led 15-7.
  • At the beginning of the fourth quarter the Hoyas and the Blue Jays exchanged two pairs of goals. In the final five minutes of the contest, JHU scored two back-to-back to lead 19-9. Steer netted one final goal for the Hoyas, but the Blue Jays would earn the 19-10 victory.  
OF NOTE
  • Steer led the offense with three goals followed by Driggs and McGovern with two apiece.
  • Byrne and Hanna Bishop each notched a goal and two assists in the contest.
  • Lily Athanas led the defense with three caused turnovers.
  • Goalie Leah Warehime made 11 saves for the game.
  • Georgetown was outshot by Hopkins, 40-23.
UP NEXT

The Hoyas will return to Cooper Field for a midday competition against Lehigh on Saturday, March 1. Opening draw is scheduled for noon.
