OMAHA, Neb. – The Georgetown University men's basketball team fell to the Creighton Bluejays 80-69 on Sunday afternoon at CHI Health Center Omaha. ON THE RECORD
"Since December 14, we have not had the same lineup, and it's been frustrating. It's crippling the growth of the organization, and many teams around the country are going through it. We have to find a way to get as healthy as we can, as Thomas Sorber and Caleb Williams are still game-to-game. Hopefully we can get them back for Wednesday as we play against a very talented team on the road again. This is a really, really quick turnaround. We got one day of preparation, and then we get back on a plane to go to Hartford on Tuesday to play on Wednesday night. Then another really quick turnaround against Marquette. So this is a tough stretch we're in given our limited lineup." - Head Coach Ed Cooley

HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
  • Jayden Epps led a trio of Hoyas in double figures with a game-best 22 points on 8-for-14 shooting, including a 4-for-7 effort from beyond the arc.
  • Micah Peavy tallied a double-double with 20 points, with 18 in the first half, and a game-best 12 rebounds. His four assists paced the GU offense while he chipped in a day-best four steals.
  • Malik Mack managed 15 points on four made field goals, including a pair of 3-pointers, to go along with three assists and two blocks.
  • Drew Fielder pulled down eight boards, enough for second on the squad, while also managing three blocked shots.
  • Georgetown shot 38.5% (25-65) for the game and drained 12 triples on the day.
  • GU forced nine CU turnovers on five steals while committing just seven turnovers of their own.
  • While the Bluejays owned the glass, outrebounding the Hoyas 49-37, the Blue & Gray was able to convert its eight offensive boards into 14 second-chance points while Creighton managed nine second-chance points off 13 offensive boards.

CREIGHTON HIGHLIGHTS
  • Steven Ashworth led Creighton with 20 points on 6-for-19 shooting followed closely by Ryan Kalkbrenner with 19. Jasen Green and Jamiya Neal added 14 and 13 points, respectively, to round out the Bluejays in double figures.
  • Neal led the Bluejays on the glass with 12 boards followed by Kalkbrenner (8) and Jackson McAndrew (8).
  • Neal paced the offense with nine helpers on the day followed by Ashworth who chipped in seven.
  • Creighton shot 41.8% (28-67) from the field and 27.0% (10-37) from behind the arc.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The squads opened up trading buckets with back-to-back stepback 3-pointers from Peavy giving the Hoyas the early five-point advantage (14-9) at the first media timeout. Peavy would tally the next two buckets for Georgetown, pulling ahead seven (18-11) on a Peavy steal and fastbreak dunk.
  • As the Bluejays closed the gap to one, it was back-to-back treys from Epps and Jordan Burks that extended the lead back to seven (26-19) with 10:32 to play and sparked a 16-7 run to give the Blue & Gray its biggest lead of the frame at 10 (36-26).
  • However, the Bluejays would not go away as 3-pointers and trips to the charity stripe helped the home team chip away at the lead. An 18-6 run to close the frame gave CU the 44-42 lead going into the locker room.
  • Coming out of the break, the Bluejays remained hot, ballooning the lead to as many as 14 (60-46, 14:52), but GU clawed its way back behind a 13-4 run, including 10 from Epps, to make it a two-possession game (64-59). In the run, Epps drained a pair of 3-pointers, knocked down a pair of free throws and tallied one bucket.
  • The home team took advantage of defensive stops to push the deficit back to double digits before a Mack bucket cut it back to eight (69-61) with 7:41 to play.
  • Creighton ran away with the 80-69 win at the final whistle.

OF NOTE
  • Peavy's 12 rebounds matched his career high in the category, He previously grabbed 12 boards against Arizona State on December 16, 2023.
  • Today's game marked the third double-double of the season for Peavy and the fifth of his career.
