HOW IT HAPPENED
- Georgetown got out to a hot start from deep, landing four triples in less than four minutes to take a 14-4 lead and force the UConn timeout. Peavy drained a pair while Burks and Epps chipped in one apiece in the run.
- The Huskies tallied eight unanswered to make it a one-possession game but a 6-2 spurt for the Blue & Gray, including buckets from Epps and Burks gave the Hoyas some breathing room (22-16) but the home team would not go away, pulling to within one (26-25). A Mack trey rattled around the rim before popping out as the whistle was called. He sunk all three free throws to make it a two-possession game (29-25).
- However, UConn had another run in the can, reeling off 10 straight before a Peavy jumper stopped the bleeding and pulled the Blue & Gray back within four. GU would close to within two on an Epps jumper but the Huskies closed the frame on five unanswered to take the 42-35 lead into the locker room.
- Coming out of the break, the Hoyas knocked down a pair of buckets to make it a one-possession game (42-39) but continued trips to the line kept the Huskies ahead. A triple from Kayvaun Mulready once again closed the gap to a single possession (57-54) but the Huskies staged a 9-2 run to extend the lead.
- UConn never let the foot off the gas, ballooning the lead to as many as 19 before sealing the 93-79 win at the final whistle.
