Women’s Lacrosse Downs Lehigh 14-8

Box Score WASHINGTON – The Georgetown women's lacrosse team (3-3) earned a 14-8 victory over the Lehigh Mountain Hawks (1-3) on Saturday afternoon on Cooper Field. 

ON THE RECORD

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Molly Byrne scored the first goal of the game to give the Hoyas a 1-0 lead at the 12:31 mark. Lehigh responded with two-consecutive goals to earn a 2-1 lead. With five minutes remaining in the quarter, Maley Starr and Hanna Bishop scored one a piece to put GU up 3-2. The Hoyas and the Mountain Hawks exchanged a pair of goals before Lehigh closed out the quarter with a free-position goal from Molly Snow. At the end of the first, the score was tied 4-4. 
  • Lehigh kept its scoring run going into the second quarter with two back-to-back goals. The Hoyas responded with two goals to tie the contest. At halftime, GU and Lehigh were tied 6-6. 
  • The Hoyas and Mountain Hawks exchanged goals to open the third but GU scored two goals in the final five minutes of the quarter to gain a 10-7 lead. 
  • The Blue & Gray continued to build off of their momentum in the fourth quarter with back-to-back goals. Lehigh's Chloe  DelNegro score at the 10:16 make to it a three goal game 11-8. The Hoyas clinched the 14-8 victory with three-straight goals to close out the contest. 
OF NOTE
  • Gracie Driggs led the Hoyas with four goals followed by Loschert with three and Starr and Bishop with two apiece. Byrne, Lauren Steer and Rosie McCarthy each notched one goal. 
  • In the circle, Rileigh Meyer led with seven draw controls. Driggs and McCarthy each tallied four. 
  • In net, Leah Warehime recorded her 250th career save while tallying 13 saves on the afternoon. 
  • Georgetown outshot Lehigh 35-28. 
UP NEXT
The Hoyas will hit the road for the second time this season as they head to Baltimore, Maryland to face No. 15 Loyola Maryland on Wednesday, March 5. Opening draw is scheduled for 4 p.m.
