WASHINGTON– Georgetown University Head Swimming & Diving Coach
Jack Leavitt announced he will be leaving Georgetown to take over as the director of athletics at Campbell Hall School in Studio City, California. Leavitt leaves behind an impressive legacy as he became the first coach to win a BIG EAST Championship, and followed that up with three more during his nine years at the helm of the program.
"
Jack Leavitt redefined Georgetown's swimming & diving programs in his nine years on the Hilltop," remarked Francis X. Rienzo Director of Intercollegiate Athletics
Lee Reed. "His passion and dedication to the program built a championship culture that I am confident will continue upon his departure because of the groundwork he laid. While losing a coach of his caliber is difficult, what we will truly miss is the personality he brought to our department. Jack is a talented coach, a mentor and a role model for so many. Personally, I know many in our department will miss him as both a colleague and a friend. We wish him and his family the very best in their new chapter, and remind them that they will always have a home at Georgetown."
In his nine seasons, Leavitt led the men's team to four-consecutive BIG EAST Championships from 2022-25.
The Hoyas have taken home plenty of hardware in Leavitt's tenure on the Hilltop, with 172 student-athletes earning All-BIG EAST honors and 288 have been named to the BIG EAST All-Academic Team.
In 2023, the men's team was awarded the BIG EAST Team Academic Excellence Award for having the highest GPA in the conference with a 3.524. In 2024,
Jack Januario was named the BIG EAST Championships' Co-Most Outstanding Male Swimmer while
Nico Santiago was named Co-Most Outstanding Male Diver of the Year.
Earlier under Leavitt's coaching, Drew Carbone was named the BIG EAST Championships' Male Most Outstanding Swimmer four times, qualified for the 2020 U.S. Olympic Trials in the 100- and 200-meter backstroke and was named the Robert A. Duffey Scholar-Athlete Award recipient in 2022.
On the women's side, three Hoyas - Margaret Barnhorst (2017), Elizabeth Miller (2018) and Riley Fujioka (2020) - all earned BIG EAST Championship's Most Outstanding Women's Diver honors.
Additionally, Leavitt and his staff were named the BIG EAST Men's Coaching Staff of the Year in 2019, 2024 and 2025.
Leavitt met with his team on Monday morning to announce the news.
"Leaving Georgetown is one of the hardest decisions I've ever had to make," Leavitt said.
"This program, this university, and—most importantly—the people here have meant the world to me and my family. The past nine years have been an incredible journey of growth, success, and transformation, but through it all, the one constant has been the relationships. Coaching these student-athletes has been a privilege, and the bonds we've built extend far beyond competition. I am so grateful for the opportunity to have led this program, and I leave knowing it is in great hands and primed for continued success.
"To my colleagues, especially Pat (McArdle) and Lee (Reed), I couldn't have asked for better mentors and friends. Your guidance, patience, and unwavering support have meant everything. And to the administrators, fellow coaches, and staff who have been there for our team every step of the way—I truly appreciate all of you.
"Georgetown will always be a part of me and my family. Hoya Saxa, forever."
Leavitt will continue to lead the program through the spring semester.
