Hoyas Drop Game Three Against Radford 6-4

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team fell to the Radford Highlanders 6-4 on Sunday afternoon. With the loss, GU slides to 8-16 on the season while Radford improves to 12-10.

ON THE RECORD
"Great job by Radford, their pitcher did an unbelievable job keeping us off balance today and credit to him. Unfortunately, we wasted a great opportunity for Andrew Williams who was phenomenal and our entire pitching staff who were great today. We didn't help them out with five errors but ultimately, that is my responsibility, and we need to get better on that side of things. It was great to see our fight at the end with Noah Leib hitting that home run to give us a chance in the ninth, it was just a little too late. Another tough one today as we continue this journey, but we will regroup and be ready to go on Tuesday." - Head Coach Edwin Thompson

HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
  • Andrew Williams dominated once again on the mound tossing 6.2 innings allowing eight hits and no earned runs while punching out four.
  • Owen Carapellotti was 1-for-4 with a run scored, a double and a walk.
  • Blake Schaaf went 1-for-3 with an RBI, a run scored and a walk.
  • Tristan Head was 1-for-4 with two RBIs, a run scored and a homer.
  • Kavi Caster went 1-for-3.
  • Dylan Larkins was 1-for-4 with a double.
  • Noah Leib went 1-for-3 with a run scored, an RBI, a homer and a walk.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first frame was scoreless for both sides. In the second, GU was able to put runners on first and second with two outs but was unable to bring either home, keeping the score even at 0-0 heading into the third frame.
  • In the bottom of the third GU was able to strike first. After a leadoff double from Carapellotti and a sac bunt that moved him to third, an RBI single from Schaaf scored Carapellotti giving GU a 1-0 lead. In the ensuing at bat, Head smashed his third homer of the season 356 feet to deep right field, extending the Hoya lead to three.
  • The Highlanders responded in the top of the fourth with a run of their own cutting the Hoya lead to two.
  • The fifth frame was scoreless for both sides as the pitchers continued to duel on the bump. Through five, Williams allowed no earned runs while punching out three.
  • After a scoreless sixth, Radford was able to tack on three in the seventh with the help of two Hoya errors giving the Highlanders their first lead of the day at 4-3.
  • Radford tallied another run in both the eighth and ninth giving the Highlanders a 6-3 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth.
  • Despite Leib hitting a solo shot in the bottom of the ninth, GU was unable to mount a comeback, dropping the contest 6-4.
