Georgetown Women’s Golf Tied for Eighth at Inaugural More Than Golf Invitational

WASHINGTON – Following one round of action at the More Than Golf Invitational, the Georgetown women's golf team currently sits in a tie for eighth place at the three-day tournament. The 12-team field is competing in the inaugural edition of the tournament, created by the ANNIKA Foundation and co-hosted by Augusta University and Columbia University. Georgia Southern, currently ranked No. 36 in the country, leads the field on the par-73, 6,425-yard course at Old Barnwell in Aiken, South Carolina.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Megan Gormley is the top Hoya on the leaderboard at 4-over 77 following 18 holes of action. The co-captain, currently tied for 22nd, opened the day with an eagle on a par-5 hole 1. She closed the day at 4-over with one eagle, a pair of birdies and nine pars.
  • Sitting one-stroke back on Gormley is the pair of Gabriella Eifrig and Georgia Ruffolo, both tied for 25th at 5-over 78. Eifrig turned in a pair of birdies and 11 pars on the day.
  • Ruffolo, fresh off her BIG EAST Female Golfer of the Week honor, matched Gormley and Eifrig with a pair of birdies and added nine pars in the first round. 
  • Claire Chen opens her spring season tied for 44th after carding an 8-over 81. She also tallied a pair of birdies and added eight pars over 18 holes.
  • A pair of Hoyas are tied for 55th at 11-over 84 in Catherine Qiu and Tina Tang, playing as an individual. Qiu managed one birdie and recorded seven pars in the effort.
  • Tang matched the Hoya high with a pair of birdies and added five pars to fuel her performance.

Georgetown will continue at the More Than Golf Invitational, held at Old Barnwell in Aiken, South Carolina through Sunday, March 30. After this weekend, the team will stay local and compete in the Terp Invitational, held at the Maryland Golf Course in College Park, Maryland on April 6-7.
