Hoya Women’s Golf Moves Up to Seventh at Inaugural More Than Golf Invitational

WASHINGTON – Through 36 holes in the Palmetto State, the Georgetown University women's golf team moved up one spot to seventh place at the inaugural More Than Golf Invitational. The three-round tournament, created by the ANNIKA Foundation and co-hosted by Augusta University and Columbia University, is being held on the par-73, 6,425-yard course at Old Barnwell in Aiken, South Carolina. Georgetown is currently 38-over 622 (314-308) and tied with Kennesaw State while No. 36 Georgia Southern leads the field at even 584 (294-290).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Megan Gormley moved up seven spots and is tied for 15th place at 5-over 151 (77-74) through the second round. Gormley's 1-over effort in the second round was fueled by consistent play that saw the co-captain tally a trio of birdies and 12 pars. For the tournament, she has one eagle (1/0), five birdies (2/3) and 21 pars (9/12).
  • Fellow co-captain Georgia Ruffolo moved up three spots to sit in a tie for 22nd place at 8-over 154 (78-76). For her 3-over 76 in the second round, the senior added four birdies and nine pars to her total. Over two rounds, she has six birdies (2/4) and 18 pars (9/9).
  • Tied for 41st and the third Hoya on the leaderboard is Claire Chen in her spring season debut at 13-over 159 (81-78). The sophomore moved up three spots after carding a 5-over 78 in the second round with a squad-best five birdies in the second round to go along with seven pars. Her two-day totals are seven birdies (2/5) and 15 pars (8/7).
  • One stroke behind Chen is freshman Gabriella Eifrig at 14-over 160 (78-82). Eifrig, tied for 45th currently, managed a quartet each of birdies and pars on the day. Through 36 holes, the freshman has six birdies (2/4) and 15 pars (11/4).
  • Moving up one spot, Catherine Qiu is currently in a tie for 54th place at 18-over 164 (84-80). Her second round was fueled by a pair of birdies and nine pars. The freshman totals three birdies (1/2) and 16 pars (7/9).
  • Playing as an individual, Tina Tang is in 69th place at 26-over 172 (84-88). She tallied one birdie and five pars on the day for a two-round total of three birdies (2/1) and 10 pars (5/5).

Georgetown will continue at the More Than Golf Invitational, held at Old Barnwell in Aiken, South Carolina through Sunday, March 30. After this weekend, the team will stay local and compete in the Terp Invitational, held at the Maryland Golf Course in College Park, Maryland on April 6-7.
