Women’s Lacrosse Falls 16-13 at No. 25 Denver

WASHINGTON – Despite a third-quarter offensive outburst, the Georgetown women's lacrosse team (5-5, 0-1 BE) fell 16-13 to No. 25 Denver (7-4, 2-0 BE) at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium on Saturday afternoon.  

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Hanna Bishop got the Hoyas on the board first with a goal at the 12:52 mark of the first quarter. The Pioneers took the lead with a three-goal scoring run. Anne McGovern responded for the Hoyas with a free-position goal at the 6:47 mark. Denver closed out the first quarter with two goals to lead 5-2. 
  • DU continued its scoring run into the second quarter with two more goals to lead 7-2. GU earned two free-position goals to come within three of the Pioneers, but Denver found the back of the net three times in the final minute of the second quarter to go up 10-4. 
  • Georgetown responded in the third quarter with a five-goal scoring run led by Gracie Driggs with three goals. DU notched two late goals in the third quarter to remain in the lead 12-9. 
  • In the fourth quarter, the Hoyas managed to get within two, but the Pioneers would score a final goal with eight seconds remaining in the contest to earn a 16-13 victory. 
OF NOTE
  • Driggs led the offense with four goals and one assist, followed by Bishop with three goals and one assist. 
  • Emma Gebhardt notched two goals, including her 100th career goal. 
  • Maley Starr, Jacqueline Jaskiewicz, Rileigh Meyer and McGovern each tallied one goal.
  • At the circle, Driggs led with seven draw controls. 
  • The Hoyas outshot Denver 34-31. 
UP NEXT
The Hoyas will return to the Hilltop to face Villanova in a midweek matchup on Wednesday, April 2. Opening draw is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Cooper Field.
