Carapellotti’s Two Homers Lifts Georgetown to 21-6 Victory Over Coppin State

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team defeated the Coppin State Eagles 21-6 on Tuesday evening in seven innings. With the win, GU improves to 4-8 on the season while the Eagles slide to 2-8.

ON THE RECORD
"I am just proud of our guys to come out and play like we did. They came out and jumped on us early, and we were able to respond, and then obviously had that big second and eighth inning to kind of get ourselves in a good spot. You know, I thought the sixth inning was important to kind of answer their momentum and I feel like we did that today. I thought Griffin O'Connor was the key to this thing today, getting his first win here as a Hoya. Jake Anderson in the back part of that game, and Jack Volo kind of gave us what we needed there. Offensively, Owen Carapellotti had another great day and it all starts with him. Tristan Head had a good day and Jaden Sheffield had a couple big knocks to start the game as well. I am proud of our team. We put pressure on them. I didn't like how we played defensively, but overall, we got back on the track that we need to be on." - Head Coach Edwin Thompson

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the top of the first, Coppin State was able to score one with the bases loaded after a hit by pitch. The lead didn't last long as the Hoya offense plated two runs in the bottom half of the frame taking the 2-1 lead into the second.
  • Fueled by an RBI triple from Carapellotti and a solo home run from Head, GU posted six runs in the second frame taking the 8-1 lead into the third inning.
  • After a scoreless third, GU scored eight runs in the fourth with the help of nine hits by the Hoya offense. Caster started things off with an RBI double before Carapellotti smashed his third homer of the season to deep right center.
  • After CSU plated one in the top half of the fifth, Carapellotti struck once again hitting a solo shot to deep right field, extending the Hoya lead to 15.
  • Coppin State scratched across four runs in the top of the sixth cutting the Hoya advantage to 11. GU added another four in the bottom of the sixth with the help of an RBI single from Leib giving GU a 15-run advantage.
