Tenth-Seeded Hoyas Face Friars in BIG EAST Tournament

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University women's basketball is preparing for the BIG EAST Tournament presented by JEEP this weekend.  Tenth-seeded Georgetown will face seventh-seeded Providence on Friday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. in the opening round of the tournament held at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.

About the Hoyas
  • Georgetown (11-18, 4-14 BIG EAST) is coming off of a tough 66-62 loss to Providence in the BIG EAST Conference finale on Saturday afternoon at McDonough Arena.
  • Graduate student Kelsey Ransom led the way with 26 and 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the season. She also had four steals and was a perfect 6-6 at the line.
  • Senior Ariel Jenkins added 10 points to go along with eight boards and two blocks in the contest.
  • Georgetown outrebounded Providence, 37-31, and forced 18 PC turnovers on eight steals. The Hoyas were also a perfect 6-6 at the line.
  • Ransom leads the league in scoring (19.9 ppg) and sits at third in steals (2.17 spg).
  • Jenkins is second on the team, averaging 11.4 ppg. She leads the league on the glass with 10.1 rpg and in double-doubles with 10 on the year. Her 4.4 offensive rebounds per game is seventh in the country.
  • Junior Victoria Rivera rounds out those averaging double figures, scoring 10.7 ppg. She is third in the BIG EAST in 3-pointers, with 60, and fourth in 3-point percentage at 34.7 percent.
About the Friars
  • Providence is 13-18 overall and 6-12 in BIG EAST play which earned the Friars the seventh seed in the tournament.
  • Providence is coming off of the 66-62 win over Georgetown on Saturday.
  • Grace Efosa finished the game with a team-best 19 points. She scored 12 of her 19 points in the fourth quarter, including 10 points in the final five minutes of the game. Efosa also dished four assists.
  • Olivia Olsen scored 16 points on 6-7 shooting from the field and grabbed four rebounds.
  • For her efforts, Efosa was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday.
  • Grace Efosa is PC's top scorer averaging 13.4 ppg, while Olsen is second with 10.7 ppg as well as 8.4 rpg.
