Williams Tosses Complete Game, Hoyas Defeat Longwood 10-0

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team run-ruled the Longwood Lancers 10-0 on Sunday afternoon in seven innings. Andrew Williams was sensational, throwing GU's first complete game since April 16, 2023, when Jake Bloss pitched a seven-inning complete game against Creighton. With the win, GU improves to 6-9 on the season while Longwood slides to 4-11.

ON THE RECORD
"What a great day for our guys to win a series. You know, to win two out of three in the DMV Classic was good for us and it's good to have a winning week. We knew it was going to be a ball game and Andrew Williams was the ball game. I thought he came out and established himself, got out of a couple jams early when we scored the four runs in the first and the four runs in the fifth, those solo home runs, with Dylan Larkins getting his first home run and Ashton Gilio getting a home run. It was also great to see Ashton Seymore get his first college hit at Georgetown. There are always things to work on, but really proud of how he responded after a tough game on Friday. We found a way to win, and I am proud of our group for doing so. Andrew Williams, Coach Capen and Connor Price, did a great job working together on a game plan to help get that shutout for us." - Head Coach Edwin Thompson

HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
  • Williams dominated on the bump allowing two hits and no runs while punching out eight en route to the Hoyas first shutout of the season and Williams' first complete game of his career.
  • Dylan Larkins went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, an RBI and a home run.
  • Ashton Seymore was 1-for-1 and tallied his first collegiate hit.
  • Jeremy Sheffield went 1-for-4 with two runs scored.
  • Kavi Caster was 2-for-4 with a run scored, an RBI and two doubles.
  • Connor Price went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a double.
  • Ashtin Gilio was 1-for-2 with a run scored and two RBIs.
  • Blake Schaaf went 1-for-2 with a run scored, an RBI and a walk.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • GU batted around in the bottom of the first with the help of three walks and a hit by pitch. An RBI double from Caster with two on gave GU an early 1-0 advantage. A hit by pitch and two consecutive walks scored two more for GU before the Hoyas added another on a sac fly. The Blue & Gray took the 4-0 advantage into the top of the second inning.
  • The Hoyas added another in the second as a ground out from Head was able to bring a runner home, extending the Georgetown lead to five.
  • After a scoreless third frame from both sides, Larkins smashed his first career homer to deep right field giving the Blue & Gray a six-run lead.
  • In the bottom of the fifth, Gilio belted his first homer of the season to deep right center. The Hoya offense wasn't done yet as an RBI single from Schaaf and Seymore scored three more Hoya runs. GU took the 10-0 lead into the sixth frame.
  • The sixth frame was scoreless for both sides. Longwood was unable to muster a comeback in the top of the seventh as the Hoyas secured the 10-0 victory.

OF NOTE
  • Williams tossed a seven-inning complete game for the first time in his career. The last time GU had a pitcher toss a complete game was April 16, 2023, when Jake Bloss did so in a seven-inning 13-1 victory over Creighton.
  • Seymore recorded his first collegiate hit.
  • Larkins belted his first career home run.
  • Gilio hit his first homer of the season.
