Georgetown in Third Place After One Round at BIG EAST Championships

WASHINGTON – Despite a rough start for the Blue & Gray, the Georgetown University women's golf team used a stronger showing on the back nine to sit in third place at 20-over 308, one stroke out of second, following one round of action at the 2025 BIG EAST Women's Golf Championships, presented by Jeep. The six-team field, currently led by defending champion Xavier (10-over 298) is competing on the par-72, 6,195-yard course at Riverton Pointe Golf and Country Club in Hardeeville, South Carolina.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Megan Gormley is currently the top Hoya on the leaderboard, sitting in a tie for eighth place at 4-over 76. The graduate student started to make moves on the back nine with back-to-back birdies on 16 and 17 before a bogey on 18 put her at 4-over. For the day, she tallied a trio of birdies and nine pars.
  • Claire Chen is sitting in a tie for 10th place at 5-over 77 following 18 holes. She managed a pair of birdies and 10 pars over the first round.
  • Gabriella Eifrig is tied with Chen in 10th place at 5-over 77 after the first round. The freshman tallied a squad-best 13 pars over the first 18 holes of the tournament.
  • Fellow freshman Catherine Qiu is currently tied for 13th at 6-over 78. She recorded a pair of birdies to go along with eight pars in the first round.
  • Georgia Ruffolo rounds out the Hoyas as she is tied for 27th at 13-over 85. The senior managed one birdie and seven pars for the day.
