Hoyas Fall at Virginia

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team dropped Tuesday night's contest at Virginia 13-1 in seven innings. With the setback, GU slides to 13-27 overall while the Cavaliers improve to 21-15.

ON THE RECORD
"I was proud of our guys coming out and taking the lead in the first. Unfortunately, we couldn't overcome the big inning they had there in the third. I was proud of our guys out of the bullpen Jake Anderson, Ryan Demartin, Andrew Jergins and Andrew Citron all throwing zeros and giving us a chance. Unfortunately, our offense couldn't get it going today. I thought we played great defense, and it is a really tough place to play against such a great program. We will regroup and get ready to travel to Cincinnati to face Xavier." - Head Coach Edwin Thompson

HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • With two outs in the top of the first, Carapellotti hit a single to third base, giving GU its first base runner of the day. In the ensuing at bat, Price hit a single of his own, putting runners on the corners with Schaaf at the dish. The sophomore hit an RBI single through the left side giving GU an early 1-0 advantage over the Hoos. The Cavaliers were able to respond with two of their own in the bottom half of the frame taking the 2-1 lead into the second.
  • A solo shot from UVA in the second extended the lead to 3-1. To start the bottom of the third, the Cavaliers hit a leadoff triple. After a wild pitch allowed the runner to score from third, UVA hit a two-run blast giving the Hoos a five-run advantage. The Cavaliers tacked on seven more runs taking the 13-1 lead into the fourth.
  • The fourth and fifth frames were scoreless for both sides.
  • With one out in the top of the sixth, Carapellotti earned a walk. The Hoya offense was unable to bring him home as the Hoyas trailed by 12 heading into the bottom half of the frame.
