Hoyas Claim BIG EAST Regular Season Crown, Top Seed at BIG EAST Championship

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's men's lacrosse earned a share of the 2025 BIG EAST Regular Season title and the top seed at the upcoming BIG EAST Championship, presented by JEEP courtesy of a 17-9 victory over visiting No. 19 Villanova on Friday night at Cooper Field. Jack Ransom paced the 14th-ranked Hoyas with nine goals, setting a Georgetown freshman record and tying the NCAA lead for most goals in a game this season.

Hoya Highlights How it Happened
  • Ransom scored four goals in the opening frame, including three of the first five of the contest as the Hoyas led 4-1. Villanova kept things close and flipped the script, outscoring the Hoyas 4-1 the rest of the quarter to tie things up at 5-5 after 15 minutes.
  • The second quarter was all Georgetown as the Blue & Gray held their guests scoreless for the first 12:15 of the period while adding another six goals of their own. A late VU goal would cut Georgetown's run and make it 11-6 at halftime.
  • Three-straight goals from GU to open the second half made it 14-6 before trading goals down the stretch to push things to 15-7.
  • Down eight heading into the final frame, every Villanova goal saw an almost immediate Georgetown response en route to the 17-9 Hoya victory.
Villanova Notes
  • David Link led the Wildcats (8-6, 4-1 BIG EAST) with a goal and five assists.
  • Matt Licata and Luke Raymond both had two goals.
  • George Glomb won 10-of-16 (.625) faceoffs.
  • In goal, Denis Fargione (6-4) and Anthony Wilson combined for 12 saves in the loss.
Georgetown Notes
  • The Hoyas have now won at least a share of four of the last five BIG EAST Regular Season titles.
  • Ransom's nine goals are a Georgetown freshman record and one off the single game record held by Mark Murphy with 10 against Radford in 1990. He is tied for second most with Steve Dusseau against Bucknell in 2002 and Paul Murphy against Fairleigh Dickinson in 1995.
  • The nine goals against Villanova are a new league record for goals scored in a BIG EAST regular season conference game. Ransom passes a multitude of players to achieve the feat, including Georgetown's Jake Carraway '21 with eight against Villanova in 2021.
  • With his three points, Carroll moves into a tie for 20th place all time on the Georgetown career scoring list with 130 points. He is tied with Mike Hammer '03 and Joe Callahan '94 on the list.
  • Banks is now eighth on the all-time caused turnovers list with 45, passing Michael Mayer '17.
  • Plath passes Banks for the most caused turnovers in a season by a freshman with 26.
