Hoya Women’s Golf Moves Up Four Spots, Takes Third at Terps Invitational

WASHINGTON – Battling weather conditions, the Georgetown University women's golf team put together the best team score from the third round to move up four spots and take third place overall at the Terps Invitational, hosted by the University of Maryland. With a three-round score of 21-over 885 (299-293-293), the Hoyas were one stroke behind High Point and one stroke ahead of the host Terrapins on the par-72, 6,244-yard course at the University of Maryland Golf Course. The 14-team field played three rounds over two days in College Park, Maryland.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Moving up 14 spots on the leaderboard and taking the top spot for the Blue & Gray, Gabriella Eifrig used a 1-under 71 in the third round, the best round for a Hoya in the tournament, to finish tied for 11th at 3-over 219 (73-75-71). She tallied four birdies, including three in a row on holes 2, 3 and 4, to go along with 11 pars. Over 54 holes, she managed six birdies (2/0/4) and 40 pars (14/15/11).
  • Co-captain Georgia Ruffolo moved up three spots over the final 18 holes to finish tied for 17th at 5-over 221 (74-73-74). Over the last round, she tallied a pair of birdies and 12 pars for a two-day total of six birdies (2/2/2) and 37 pars (12/13/12). 
  • Fellow co-captain Megan Gormley moved up 15 spots to tie for 23rd at 7-over 223 (75-75-73) following three rounds of play. Her 1-over 73 in the final round was fueled by a pair of birdies and 13 pars. Following 54 holes, she totaled eight birdies (4/2/2) and 32 pars (8/11/13).
  • Tied for 32nd at 10-over 226 (77-73-76), Catherine Qiu moved up six spots over the final 18 holes. The freshman managed one birdie and 12 pars over the final round to total six birdies (0/5/1) and 33 pars (13/8/12) through the entire tournament.
  • Claire Chen moved up 13 spots to tie for 35th after carding an 11-over 227 (80-72-75). Her final round was anchored by one birdie and 13 pars. The sophomore totaled one eagle (0/1/1), a hole-in-one on hole 8 in the second round, three birdies (0/2/1) and 35 pars (11/11/13).
  • Tying for 61st, Charlotte Hillary finished with an 18-over 234 (81-73-80). Over 54 holes, she managed a trio of birdies (2/1/0) to go along with 36 pars (9/15/12).
  • Also playing as an individual, Tina Tang moved up three spots to tie for 69th overall at 21-over 237 (78-81-78). With one birdie and 11 pars in the final round, the sophomore totaled two birdies (0/1/1) and 32 pars (13/8/11) for the tournament.

  • With a 5-over 293 in rounds two and three, Georgetown matches its season low for a team round that was originally set on October 19 in the second round of the Blue Hen Invitational.
  • With a 1-under 71, Eifrig recorded her second round under par of the season.
  • Eifrig (1-under 71) in the third round and Chen (EVEN 72) in the second round were the top two rounds for the Hoyas. A quintet of Hoyas recorded the third-best round for the Blue & Gray (1-over 73) in Eifrig's first round, Ruffolo's second round, Gormley's third round, Qiu's second round and Hillary's second round.
