Women’s Lacrosse Falls 16-11 to No. 14 James Madison

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown women's lacrosse team (7-6, 2-1 BE) fell 16-11 to No.14 James Madison (8-4, 3-0 AAC) on Cooper Field on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Reagan Ziegler got the scoring started for the Hoyas with a player-up goal at the 8:36 mark of the first quarter. Savannah Derey responded a minute later for the Dukes to tie the contest 1-1. The Hoyas and the Dukes exchanged two pairs of goals to end the first quarter tied 3-3. 
  • JMU grabbed its first lead of the evening after a two-goal run to open up the second quarter. The Hoyas responded with two goals of their own to tie to game at 5-5. GU and JMU went back and forth for the remainder of the quarter and ended the first half tied  7-7.
  •  Gracie Driggs scored early in the third to give the Hoyas an 8-7 advantage but the Dukes would go on to score four goals to grab an 11-9 lead at the end of the quarter. 
  • JMU kept the momentum going in the fourth quarter with five goals, led by Maddie Epke with three. Driggs managed to score two final goals for the Hoyas, but the Dukes would earn the 16-11 victory on the Hilltop. 
OF NOTE
  • Driggs led the Hoyas with six goals and seven draw controls. 
  • BIG EAST Freshman of the Week, Sophia Loschert, added two goals while Anne McGovern, Hanna Bishop and Ziegler each added one. McGovern also led with five helpers. 
  • Rileigh Meyer led the squad with five ground balls and three caused turnovers. 
  • In net, Leah Warehime recorded nine saves. 
UP NEXT
  • The Hoyas will remain on the Hilltop to face BIG EAST foe Butler on Saturday, April 12. Opening draw is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Cooper Field.
