Hoyas Fall to Creighton 5-3

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team came up short against the Creighton Bluejays 5-3 in the opening game of a three-game series. With the loss, the Hoyas fall 16-38 on the season and 3-16 in BIG EAST play while the Bluejays improve to 36-14 with a 15-4 mark in conference action.

ON THE RECORD
"Quite the pitchers duel tonight. Both guys were really good, their guy, and I thought JT Raab was excellent. He left one pitch up, and you know it doesn't define his outing. I thought Axel Johnson, Jake Anderson and Kai Leckszas gave us stops when we needed them. Their guy was really good, and we didn't get much going on. Ashton Seymore's big home run early kept us in it there and that was great to see. We were able to score there and fight and fight like heck against the best closer in the league. I'm just proud of our guys' fight. I'm really happy with how we competed, and we will come back out tomorrow for senior day and there will be a lot of emotion going on, but it's a great opportunity to come back out and try and even the series." - Head Coach Edwin Thompson

HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The opening inning went quietly, with both teams held off the scoreboard. The Bluejays broke through in the top of the second, plating a run on an RBI single that brought the runner in from second. The Hoyas answered back in the bottom of the third when Seymore launched a solo homer over the left field fence to even things up.
  • The ballgame turned into a pitcher's duel, as both starters settled in and kept the bats silent through the next three frames. Creighton picked up the scoring again in the top of seventh on a two-run homer over the right field wall followed by an RBI single to make it 4-1 in favor of the visiting team.
  • Creighton went on to score another run in the top of the ninth inning. The Hoyas retaliated in the bottom of the ninth with an RBI single from Price through the left side to score Gilio.
  • Georgetown was able to tack on another run courtesy of an error, but it wouldn't be enough to overcome the deficit as the Hoyas fell 5-3.

OF NOTE
  • Seymore hit his third home run of the season.
