Dagba to Compete for Brazil in FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University women's basketball sophomore Alexia Araujo-Dagba is currently training with the Brazilian U19 Women's National Team as the squad prepares for the FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup in the Czech Republic from July 12-20. Araujo-Dagba is one of 17 players on the squad, and one of seven collegiate players on the roster.
 
The Brazilian U19 team has been training since mid June in São Paulo, and will be traveling to Croatia on July 6 for some friendly games on July 8-9. The team will then head to Brno, Czech Republic to compete in the World Cup.
 
Brazil is in Group C, with Australia, France and Mali. The squad secured a spot with a fourth-place finish in the 2024 U18 Copa América to earn a tournament berth for the second-consecutive cycle. In 2023, this group won the U17 South American Championship in Bucaramanga, Colombia.
 
Araujo-Dagba has been a part of the national team pool since 2021, representing Brazil in six international tournaments. Within FIBA competitions, she has appeared in 33 games averaging 5.9 ppg and 3.7 rpg. In her most recent tournament with the national team, she averaged 11.7 ppg over six games and pulled down 6.7 rpg. This included a double-double of 18 points and 10 boards against Argentina in the third-place game.
 
In her freshman season on the Hilltop, Araujo-Dagba appeared in 24 games for the Blue & Gray. She averaged 2.1 ppg to go along with 1.8 rpg. The forward posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds in her first collegiate game.
